zx volcane suspension mounting

Unread post by Owen101 »

Hi Recently I am hearing a knocking noise coming from the nearside front suspension area.
From doing a search here this is quite a common fault it seems but I am having trouble locating the exact cause of the rattle. It is extremely annoying over any uneven surface.
The local main dealer told me the anti roll bar link needed replacing which I did, along with a track rod end, but this hasnt cured the problem.
After levering the wheel up and down rapidly the knock seemed to be coming from the top of the strut. After a closer look, I noticed some corrosion around the shock bracket and also the bump stop underneath the wheel arch looked worn. The shock is fine though.
Anybody else have a similar problem and do you think replacing these items (expensive) would cure the knock?
thanks for any info.

Is'nt there a rubber bush at the shock mount ?
This could be the main (cheap) problem.

Further to that I noticed the knocking stoped when the brakes were pressed gently - turns out caliper was loose on right hand side. Its badly corroded and worn looking so will replace it and see what happens.
