HELP - CITROEN C5 TRYING TO CHANGE RADIO - STRANGE PROBLEMS

Unread post by mancuk29 »

Please can anyone help

I have a Citroen C5 2.0 HPi SX 2002 Model , this is a fabulour car apart from the rubbish cd player - I have purchased a Blaunkpunt Freestyler so I can enjoy a good radio system plus navigation - I have come to fit the radio and strange things happen

The display on the dash states air bag fault
The display on the dash states passenger airbag turned off
The lights on the dash will come up as normal and check the system and then go off - then come back on again
The petrol indicator shows how much petrol is in and then goes to the bottom
The computer button on the windscreen wipers wont change between the settings (ie mpg, miles before refuel)
The service mileage doesnt show

All of the above is with the ignition in the one prior to turning on the engine *cant remember what you call it !*

I am aware this car has the multi plex wiring system so I tried the ignition with no radio in at all and I dont get any problems what so ever

I know I will lose my radio stick on the steering wheel but why wont the radio work - the blaunkpunt is a standard din connector and works fine its just the damn car

I am confused , can this be sorted by citroen or am I stuck with the rubbish radio and have wasted a fortune on a new radio

PLEASE HELP :?:

you need to get an ISO to ISO connector & re-wire the radio with only battery live, ignition live & an earth (+ the speaker wires) connected to it,the problem is that the multiplexed wires are connected to the aftermarket radio but the BSI cant comunicate with it.
You will probably find that there is no ignition live at the back of the radio so you will need to take this from the fag lighter.

You have the two usual connections (Battery and ignition) on the plug, but they are switched with each other. connect only the speaker and power plugs, not the third one (from memory, this has 3 colours, or just on small brown one). Try it like this.
I didn't have to use an adapter to my radio (JVC KD-G701), plug it in, reversed the live wires, and presto. Don't turn on the radio for long then tunr on the engine; you will surely get the "passenger airbag off" or something fault. just tunr of then on the car with the radio off.
good luck!

Take the car to a Citroen dealer.

Ask them nicely to go in to the BSI configuration set up.

Adjust the setting for the radio.

Then plug your new radio in.

Job done in less then 10 minutes.

Powerlee... you forgot step 6..

Hand over a stupid amount of cash for less than 10 minutes work, and leave the garage with a somewhat lighter wallet.

In my experience, Pug and Cit dealers won't even contemplate plugging into your car for less than about £60+vat

Oh, I don't know on that one. My local dealer gave me a complete service history printout, and read my fault codes for nothing. Seems that a few still have got good old fashioned customer service skills  I just can't help thinking that mine might be the only one however!

There is no need for a diagnostic computer. You cant make an ignition live appear by plugging a diagnostic computer into the BSI changing the configuration,to do it properly you need to run a seperate ignition live feed to the new radio & use a seperate plug so that the data wires do not connect to the new radio.
It totaly depends on the radio make, some ones you can just plug in & it wont affect it (although you wont have ignition switch on) & others it goes haywire.

there is a multiplex adaptor available from citroen & it only costs around £3 + vat, it doesent get round the lack of ignition live feed or let you use the stalk controlls though but it stops any problems with warning lights, locking etc.
i try & find the part number for you.

I had exactly the same problem with my berlingo, the multiplex wiring, I already had a good radio from my previous car. It interfered with my central locking, inside lighting and the car started to kangaroo hop, common problems with the wiring system. I found a cheap alternative, fit a cd changer into the factory fitted radio. Sony CDX multichanger, only the 6 cd changer models work properly with Citroen factory fit radios (pick one up for peanuts on Ebay) fitted with a Connects2 adapter available on special order from Halfords or other stockists at about £50. Advantages, thieves don't want the crap Citroen radio, don't know you have an interchanger fitted. You get a full cd read out on the factory unit. You can always upgrade the naf Citroen speakers at minimal cost. I approached Citroen for a better model cd player for my car, the quoted me £300 without the fitting. All in all my new kit cost me less than £100. And I fitted it in less than 30 minutes and I am a useless woman!

Thanks for all your help, I have now a great radio in my car had to purchase a multi plex adapter which also has the added beauty of steering wheel control !!! cost me £45 and this little adapter does something with the wiring so the system either accepts it or ignores it not quite sure but at least im sorted now with a decent stereo system with sat nav built in !
