Hi All,
I have removed the cylinder head for skimming, and thought that I would inspect the turbo.
It's a Garrett, and the following was found.
1. Waste Gate pivot siezed, worked on it , now moves freely against the spring pressure of the actuator.
2. Removed the small rubber pipe that trensferes pressure from the turbo to the waste gate actuator, full of oil, drained this off.
I guess the oil has come from the turbo bearings, not a good sign, oil seals worn out ?.
3. Injected into this pipe compressed air from 0 to 30 psi, the waste gate arm started to move at 20 psi, and reached full travel at 28 psi.
4. there is about 2mm end float on the shaft.
Is the turbo beyond it's sell by date ?.
Any observations would be appreciated.

Hi Mark,
The car drove fine, the power from the turbo was progressive, no surge as others have mentioned at specific rpm.
There was a lot of oil down the rear of the engine, and was having a nasty leak on the off side of the engine (Alternator end), dipite changing the cam seal twice, this made no difference.
I was hoping to find the cause of this leak when the head was removed, but nothing obvious like tracking from the oil pressure feed through the gasket, or a loose grub screw at the end of the head to cap the cam oil feed drilling.
So this is still a mystery.[:(]
Cheers
