Xm mk2 removing the keypad

I'd like to disconnect it.
How do i pull it out to get to the back connector.

ps. i know it has to be unlocked when i do it

It wont work without it, unless its a 2.1 td with a mechanical pump, then it has to be modified.

I've read numerous posts on on this forum from people claiming it would work.
As i understand it's a keypad - ECU communication thing, so once it cant communicate anymore it won't engage.
I'm not talking about removing the entire system.

As I understand it, the keypad information is used by the engine management computer to 'switch it on' the only exeption being the mechanically governed diesels. I am pleased to say my present car doesn't have one but my previous one did, the only difference being a different type of fuel injection pump. I am sure someone will come along who knows considerably more about it than I do, I will watch with interest!

thats correct,if you enter the code,start the car & disconect the keypad with the engine running then it will stay in an unlocked state.

The larger panel is simply a push/clip fit into the whole centre unit. The keypad is then fixed into this larger panel. It comes away with the rear window switches attached. R

But what happens when the battery goes flat and you do not have the keypad available???

It doesent matter,you can even disconect the battery if you want,the ECU wont go back into a locked state unless the keypad tells it.
