xantia alarm problem PLEASE HELP

Unread post by ukmobileman »

i have just borrowed the battery from my xantia to use on my vw for a few days when i put battery back on xantia alarm goes off! easy i think just use key to shut it up! nope key switch under bonnet will not silence it, if i hold key switch over and reconnect battery i can sometimes shut it up but then it will go off if i start car! i have used plip, used underbonnet key switch, used the dash board alarm button - car will run, just alarm goes off untill i disconnect battery. in what sequence do i reconnect battery /operate keyswitch and or use plip should car be locked /unlocked ignition on or off?
please help?

Ignition off, reconnect battery, let alarm sound then press dash ultrasonic disable switch and hold it in while switching on the ignition.
Later infrared type you can also just press plip to stop alarm, not sure about earlier radio type alarm.

i have soted it i think!--- well it runs and alarm does not go off !should i use keyswitch underbonnet to reactivate sounder unit as the dreaded haynes manual suggests or is it automatic? its a 93 td by way. also when car is unlocked by plip i get flashing indicators which i believe is correct but when i lock with plip i get nothing no flashing indicators AND the led on dash board above radio is off -if i press alarm button on dash the led lights and stays on untill i use plip and it then led resets to being off when locked/alarm set , is this correct ?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my car which is a '93 Xantia TDSX. I had fitted a new battery to it and the alarm went off as yours did.
To turn the alarm off after a battery change, press the inside alarm sensor button and turn the ignition on, you may have to do this a good few times, but it will cancel the alarm.
To turn your alarm on, you need the two button key, press the button next to the key end first then press the one nearest to your thumb next, but within 3 seconds, that will lock your deadlocks and turn on the alarm. You don't hear a plip or any sound to say your alarm is on, all you see is the indicators flash. To turn off, press the 1st button and the alarm turns off and unlocks the door.It would be a good idea to turn on the alrm under the bonnet too.
Good luck
Paul
PS If you phone your local Citroen dealer and talk to the parts Dept, they will tell you how to get the alrm working okay, normally they are very good with advice
