Hello everyone,
My dad has got a 1994 (M plate) Xantia 1.9 TD/SX with a really annoying problem. It's driving him (and me!!) crazy. If we try to lock the car with the PLIP, it just unlocks itself straight away. Last night we eventually got it to lock, but about half an hour later it just unlocked again all by itself.[V][xx(] I have tried just using the key in the lock but it only locks the drivers door and won't operate the others. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I get the impression it is a common thing with the Xantia. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.[^][:D][8D]
Cheers, Rich. Xantia Exclusive HDi.[^]

I have exactly the same problem, and as the central locking operates when the passanger door is locked inside or out, but not the drivers door, I suspect it's a fault with a microswitch or something in the drivers door. The interior lights can sometimes flicker or twinkle on various combinations of open doors, again I suspect a dodgy switch in a door is confusing the control unit. For now pull the central locking fuse so you can at least lock the thing manually.

I'm going to investigate my door lock, I'll report back what I find.

Mine was doing the exact same thing - I ended up pulling the fuse (21 IIRC) as it was the only way I could get it to lock.
I bought a pair of front door lock motors, and stripped the doors in preparation to replace them. I never actually did, becuase during the process I realised it was the passenger door courtesy switch that wasn't operating properly. I few firm presses later and its been fine ever since.
The door lock motors do go though according to the aftersales manager at the local Cit dealer, hence why I got a set. They're still in my garage, so if you find you need one let me know and we'll sort something out.

I recently had the passenger front door lock motor fail on my BX TD Estate. this does not have a plip and so the passenger door key opens the whole car.
What would happen is that when i operated the drivers door lock the passenger door button would stay still and the other doors would promptly unlock. If I locked the pasenger door manually I could lock the rest of the car.
On dismantling I found no circuit through the motor part bytr the switch contacts were ok. (Motor is the 2 wire plug, switch the 3)
I purchased a 5 wire locking motor from Maplins expecting fun and games trying to fit it. Imagine my surprise when it bolted in exactly and even the operating lever fitted perfectly. If youy re interested they are £9.99 and the top 2 wires are the motor (polarity importand - trial and error to get it going the right way. The bottom 3 simply need the common wire to the switch tracing and connecting to the common of the car.
5 wire motors are used on locking doors, 2 wires on the rest sofar as I know.

I HAVE THE ANSWER TO ALL YOUR LOCK PROBLEMS....I HAD IT TOO.......
My car would lock then unlock, I removed the door panel and it worked again!!!! Bloody frustrating or what? anyway, I put the panel back including the inside lock button, and it didn't work!!! BUGGER, I then removed the lock button and it then worked. I now have a car that has a lock button but isn't fastened to the lock rod, It seems that the system is very delecate and if it feels resistance it unlocks again, so by not attaching the button the resistance is removed and HEY PRESTO.....
Good Luck

well, have checked out the control unit, no water in the foot well or anywhere else for that matter, area was bone dry. looks like it will be a solnoid in one or both of the doors at fault. will be looking at that next week, time & weather permiting [}:)].
jeremy, thanks 4 the idea to search, have had a good look, some points to check out.

Hi, if you have the problem about the locks, look at my earlier reply. Try locking the car without the interior lock 'trim' attached, if it works and the car locks, its just the bar bent in one of the doors, therefore, replace the trim one at a time, the rear locks dont have anything to do with the locking of the car, just the front.

the difference between the front and rear motors is that the front motors have a switch mechanism in them which is often the problem. the difficult bit is the interaction between these switches and the door lock shwtches.
If the mechanism is not movig freely the lock motor switch will not operate properly and the doors will unlock.

well i pulled out the fuse earlier this week as it had got the better of me at the time, thought i would leave it un til to day to have a good old dig around at it, so had the trim off today, made sure that nothing was getting caught, which nothing was, while i was at it i had the door lock out & cleaned it up, well as much as i could, which wasn't a lot cleaned the door lock conections, so far so good.
i still dont know what the problem might is.[xx(][xx(][:(], also found out the the black box attached to the drivers door is to do with the electric windows & mirrors, traced the door lock wires back though to the car body, they dont seem to go anywhere near the black box, any ideas on where else i could check??[V][?]
have checked the following items for water problems, alarm ecu under passenger seat, central locking box under centre console, both front door locks.
i'm now at a loss
a very annoyed.. dom[V]
