Where to begin finding fault ?

Unread post by BarmyDragon »

I am currently having some serious bouncing problems when driving my car, the slightest bump in the road and we bounce higher inside it.
Raising or lowering the suspension is no problem both the front and rear raise and fall fine. However should I try and push down on the front wing to see if there is any movement, its very hard to press down on the suspension and there is very little movement. ???

These are classic symptoms of 'flat' suspension spheres. If they are still the original ones they are probably well overdue for replacement by now.

Nick has hit it on the head but if you want to go through the motions, start the car & set the suspension to normal ride height. Press down on each corner, the ride at the rear should be very soft & floaty whereas at the front it will will press down smoothly but much firmer.
The actual pumping up & down via the ride height selector, has absolutely nothing to do with the spheres so it should be cycled from top to bottom & back to top then back to normal height without any fuss. Creaking, crackling & heavy jerking & sticking are all signs of rear arm bearings or front struts on the way out or fully or partially seized. Whilst set at the highest setting, goto the back of the car & standing 10 or 20 feet behind, look at the wheels & they should be like this I I If they are / I or / \ then the rear control arm bearings are had it. Either front or rear bearings and/or struts needing replacing are not a terminal complaint with these cars.
