406 hdi

my 406 hdi is playing up it started a few months ago when i got an antipollution fault on the centre display.I changed the fuel filter and it ran normally for a few weeks and then started running lumpy and starting from cold it chugged like running on 3 cylinders until you revved it until 2000 revs then it ran normal.Then pulling up at junctions etc it started chugging again.I put a triple dose of millers injector in it and this solved that problem,but still runs lumpy from cold.I have replaced the glow plugs and retested them they all glow fine.The car seems to have all of its power when it reaches normal temprature and i have recently replaced the fuel filter again but its still the same.Do you think the problem is the injectors or something else,hope someone can help

Year of 406 & which HDI lump you have fitted would be a help for a start.

2 litre 90 bhp HDI?

2 litre 110 bhp HDI?

2.2 litre 136 bhp HDI?

Also has it got a FAP filter fitted?

sorry its a 2.0 hdi 110hp its a 2001 model and has 90,000 miles.Whats a fap filter?thanks

A FAP filter was fitted to some PSA HDI engines to reduce the emissions & qualify for a lower tax bracket company car wise.

Now you have told us which HDI lump you have one of the diesel lads will be able to help you more

id remove & check the airflow meter for corrosion on the filament caused by water ingress

i removed the airflow meter and can't see any rust on it

any other ideas,i was thinking of fitting an induction kit but might leave that til its running properly,what does anyone think about induction kits would they give me more power or just more noise

The K&N induction kit I put on my car was a waste of time and money. My car is a 1.6 110bhp 307. It seemed just to make more noise. It didnt pick up as well. Maybe it was my car?! and the type of engine!?! I didnt notice any improvement. Waste of money in my opinion. Others will probably tell you different!

car still playing up,been to a french car specialist and he says he normally removes the EGR valve and throws it away,does this sound ok

sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Throwing away an EGR valve is a very wise idea.

But the intake manifold will also need a good clean out. You'll probably find several Kg of goop in it. (mixture of turbo oil and exhaust soot. mmmmm yummy)
