Spheres (again)
I took a look at the old, original spheres I took off my Xantia about a year ago. They have various numbers stamped on them. I know the '55' stamped on the bulb is the pressure, and the V63 and U01 are probably bench identity marks, but what does the '44' indicate that's stamped on each side of the orifice.

If the stamping is directly on the orifice circumference - this code refers to the damper valve spring plate combination fitted - which in turn defines the damping (shock absorbing) value.
The citroen spheres have 4 variables :
1) The gas volume (sphere size)
2) The gas pressure
3) The orifice diameter (slow speed stability)
4) The damper valve calibration (shock absorber)
That's why it's important to get the correct sphere for the specific application on Citroen hydraulic cars.
