ZX plip failure

Unread post by adrianeaton »

Hi all
Well, after passing the ZX Furio on to the parents it's proceeded to break down on 3 occasions - looks like we sold it just in time!
A water leak had developed around the aerial mounted in the roof, since when the remote central locking has failed to operate. The central locking still works OK on the key.
The water leak was fixed but after drying out the remote locking hasn't returned to normal.
If I decide to repair this, what sort of cost will I be looking at and what components are required? Do I just need a new received unit or do I have to buy new remotes too?
Cheers
Adrian

The remote locking receiever is not available seperately, although the actual plips are.
Citroen sell a kit 6552LH receiver and 2 plips £131.77. We also sell this for £89.00.
If you could find a good s/hand receiver I'm not sure if its possible to program the plips the way that you can on a Xantia, perhaps someone can advise?

Hi Jon
Not sure it's possible to programme the ZX plip like the Xantia - it's more like the BX/CX system isn't it? I'm guessing there would be some circuit work required to 'reprogram' the remote fob?
I wander what the chances are of getting a working system complete from a scrap ZX?!

Jon, is there any possibility that Andyspares could sell the plips seperately? Mine works but drains the batteries in about two weeks, a slight short circuit somewhere I guess.

Silly thought Richard - These are the flat round plated batteries aren't they?
Are you being careful when you put them in not to touch the edge with the plastic insulator? Tiny grease deposits can cause a partial short which drains the battery which is after all very small.

Thanks Jeremy, I know to keep the batteries clean but I think it's a fault on the board. I checked it with a multimeter, it's drawing a few milliamps all the time, possibly leakage through the capacitor. I only have the one plip and tend to keep a bit of thin plastic between the batteries and positive contact to save the batteries.

Adrian -
If your ZX plip unit resembles the BX/CX infrared remote type - then try Bob's homepage - where you'll find info reprogramming using a soldering iron & a bit of fiddling :
