evaporative emmission control canister

Post by mallyg »

Please can someone tell me what the canister does. I noticed today that one of the pipes leading into the top of the canister has broken off. is it important or can i just leave it as it is.

Thanks

- and we assume its an old BX - right ? 8)

Yes it is importatnt. And very easy to rectify. Go to your local car accessory shop and by whatever lenght of suitable dia fuel hosing and replace it. Its that simple. Would cost you a few quid only.

Btw : its the fuel fumes canister - holds the fumes in charcoal. Once the engine is running the canister is vented to burn the fumes in the engine.
The system has been around for many years now and is one of the EEC regulations to get down pollution on waste of fuel & fumes.
