HI There, I need some help, I have a Xantia 2.0ltr HDI 110 bhp. 2000 the car had been in my garage overnight and when I started it the warning light in the temperature gauge came on also the STOP word I immediately stopped the engine and checked the water level and it was OK, can someone lead me in the right direction please and hopefully not Citroen.

Check and clean the connections to the sensor on the thermostat housing - with any luck, that will solve the problem. If not, do a search on 'Bitron' - again, probably corroded contacts, but a bit harder to get to :?

Nothing to worry about, it's a common indication fault on the Xantia, caused by intermittencies in the brown temperature sensor plug or wiring.
This fault also causes the cooling fans to spin at the high speed for no reason.
The brown sensor is on the thermostat housing.
