Renault 5 compatibility query

Unread post by Marcain »

I have just bought my first car, a wonderful 3 door, Renault 5 Campus Prima 1995 N Reg.
Being a complete novice when it comes to cars, i would like some help with a couple of questions if anyone has the time.

I would like to fit Electric Windows & Central locking to the car, now i know this is not a simple task for most novices but this is where my dad comes in, as he was a Auto Electrician for many years, and its a fair swap for all the IT support i have given him over the years, (cheers dad, lol).

1) is this possible or am i wasting my time thinking about it.

2) what parts are compatible from what other vehicles

3) where are the best places to buy from, good service / value / 2nd hand / new

4) Also looking for a cheap Haynes if anyone has.

your cheekily Mike.

not sure if the renault 5 turbos came with them leccy toys ,if so you can do a straight swap . check on ebay for the parts ,

for the central locking ,you can always buy a universal kit from motor world or ebay etc .

French manufacturers, especially Renault, loaded their cars up with toys long before anybody else did. Even the original 5 could be had with electric windows/ central locking at a time when radial tyres were optional on an Escort.

If you can't find a suitable R5 donor car you might have more luck finding a 9 or 11 with the necessary parts. Even a Clio might do.

No French cars of my own at present.
