I got a new plip for my Xantia this week so I know how this works.
You need to get into the car with all the doors shut, turn the ignition to the first stage only (battery light only on) and press and hold the first button for about 5 seconds on the plip whilst pointing it directly at the IR receiver. Let go, fire the plip again and it should operate the locks.
On mine this didn't work when I tried in the dealership car park, so the Service Manager came out and removed the access panel for the receiver and unclipped the white box from the trim panel, wiped it with a tissue and performed the procedure above with the receiver hanging from the roof and it worked first time - they need a very strong signal to change the plips in the system apparently.

oh i got my plip for timmsd (breaking xantia in for sale/spares forum) for a lot less than the GSF shop price - So easy to program - Although after you have programmed it, it will only lock/open car when ignition is off! hence i had 3 attempts to program plip (i thought i hadn't programmed it because ignition was still on - when really i had!)

I have a 2000 Xantia and seem to have a similar problem with the central locking / alarm, the plip works intermitently??

The later <b>X</b>antia has a different remote, the earlier ones were infra red, the later ones use a radio signal.
I don't think tehy reprogram the same way.

try the http: link in above post, tells you how to program later key fobs.
The early (my) type you do as blueboy suggests in his post
Also the early type seems that you can't program 2 keyfobs for same car
It seems you program the infra red box in roof to match the signal from the plip !
I can get either one to work - but it cancels out the other one , even programmed both together but only one will work

have you replaced the batterys in remote ? that would be a first choice if remote only works now and again
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
I've replaced the battery - same problem, I'm assuming that the
re-initiation has worked, as sometimes it works and the imobiliser doesn't stop me from driving.
a)Can I assume that the key wouldnt work at all if it wasn't initialised?
b)Does the Xantia have a factory imobiliser?
Xantia 2.0 Exclusive (yr 2000)
If the plip is initialised - what else could cause the intermitent problems with the central locking / alarm?
Where is the alarm located?(could it be wiring/earthing problem?)
Is there a specific fuse? The owners manual doesn't state the alarm as having a fuse?
Many thanks

it would not work at all if it was not initalised, your xantia has a transponder imobiliser,it is disarmed automaticaly when the recever around the ignition barrel receves a coded signal from a chip in the base of the key blade, the operation of the alarm/c.locking with the plip has nothing to do with the disarming of the imobiliser.it could be just a dodgy plip.

Hi,
Does the same method apply to a Cit ZX? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
I think the ZX works the same as the BX (infra red) plip. Look here.
