Typical isn't it. It gets to winter, and the heater matrix in the 405 is blocked.
As far as I was aware, all 405's use the same type/style/shape of heater matrix. But looking at the GSF site, they show "405 heater matrix" and "405 heater matrix BEHR type".
Now. Is this two different non-interchangeable units, or is it just a cheapie one, and a better quality one?
I would wait until tomorrow, and phone them, but if someone knows for sure, then I can order tonight, and I need this matrix as soon as possible... with -7 overnight at the moment, I could do with some heat!
What makes it all the more annoying is that I only changed the matrix 18 months ago, but fitting a cheapie one was a BAD idea.
405 heater matrix.

Interesting.
I have the old matrix from 18 months ago from my 405 mk2 with electronic control and A/C. I also have an old heater unit from a 1993 basic model, and an old matrix removed from a 1989 basic model... and they're all dimensionally identical. They look a little different in design, but are certainly interchangeable.
Which is why I'm wondering if there's any difference.
I think I've still got a Pug parts CD somewhere... Time to have a good look

I think I see what you mean....
Heater matrix could be either 6448 74 or 6448 77 and the heater pipes could be either 6464 N1 or 6464 Q8, although the catalogue doesn't appear to specify which pair of parts go together.
Bummer....
I assume I have a non-BEHR type, but it really would help if these catalogues were clearer as to what each of the components looks like!

On the Pug parts cd rom for the 405N Go in to Body Electricity Heating & Jack
Click on Heater Detail & it brings up the 3 different types of set up.
BEHR without air conditioning
VALEO thermique without air condition
VALEO thermique with air conditioning
That any good to you
I reckon you want part number 6448 77
I really really want one of the latest parts cd rom, The 206 I have isnt even on the one I have

Can you guys help me on a similar problem on my 94 405? The heater output has been getting worse for the last month or so,ive fitted a new stat and flushed the matrix pipes then bled the system using the bottle technique but the warm air is still not as hot as it should be,temp gauge shows about 80 degrees. The thing is,ive managed to touch the steel pipes that are inside the dash and they feel hot, does this mean that the matrix is still blocked and if so is it a right bugger to change?Hope you can help! Matt.

Hi
Do both pipes to the matrix feel hot?
On the side of the heater matrix is a small servo motor, Its behind the side trim by the drivers feet, With the ignition on move the heat control slowly from cold to hot, Can you hear a nice smooth whirring coming from the drivers footwell or a nasty clicky sound?
