I have a 1995 Citroen Zx 1.4i with power steering, about three weeks ago I had the inner track rod ends replaced on my zx. Shortly after a knocking noise come noticeable from the left front wheel. I took it back they said there was no play in the steering?
For the last three weeks I have been trying to find the noise and today I have. I have noticed fair amount of movement up and down i.e. pulling up and down on the left inner track rod end in the engine compartment. So there was play in the steering.
So in my book that scandalous that they even let me drive the car away in that state and this from a garage that I THOUGHT WERE GOOD AND WERE ANOTHER CITROEN SPECIALIST.
ARE THERE ANY GARAGES OUT THERE THAT ARE GOOD AND DONT LET YOU DRIVE A CAR THAT DANGEROUS TO YOU AND OTHER ROAD USERS.
CANT BELIEVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your thinking main agents No the worst cits I've ever owned were main dealer serviced, if you live in the SE (which I don't anymore) I can unreservedly recommend Whitmun Engineering in Merstham Surrey, I believe that they even won an award from the Daily Torygraph years ago for their standards of service. My dad had 3 GSs serviced there and 2 Bxs, I have a feeling that they are even allowed to do warranty work

Took the car back to the garage this morning, they couldnt find anything wrong with steering and they said that the play was normal on the left hand side inner track rod?????????????????????????????. They checked all the mountings (including engine mount) under the car for play and bolt and nut tightness.
The mechanic took it for a drive and on returning he said he thought there was something wrong with the left suspension turret either to do with the bearing or the shock.
is it possible that this is causing me knocking noise
Jon I live in the Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire area of the country.

I have to admit I double check everything that a garage does now, after a Citroen Specialist (who'd been brilliant in the past) where I live let me drive away with a diesel leak on no less than 3 occasions [:0].
Each time they gave me the car back just before closing and they would say "Let's see if this works"...I'd get the car round the corner, fill it up...and then sure enough diesel pouring from the bottom [:0]...not the attitude to take with the fuel system and needless to say I've stopped using them (what if I'd been in a petrol car?...it was leaking all over the hot exhaust).
The worst part was when it was all over, the garage owner then told me it was my fault for trying to diagnose where the diesel was leaking from [B)]
I say that if it is possible to do it yourself then do, there's no subsitute for good hand on experience [;)] (Though I've actually wimped out on doing my rear sub-frame mounts myself [:I]) Sometimes though Citman, garages best just isnt good enough, there really needs to be a shake up of standards. I hope you get it sorted [:)]

Amen to that guys,
How do they get away with charging up to ?60 an hour, when most of them aren't mechanics they are fitters, in my days as an electrician the chances of me making that sort of money for a MOD quality job was zero let alone the sort of stuff we get from them. I've said before that the only reason that cits have a reputation for being unreliable is because the main agents don't have anyone with a tenth of the knowledge you'll find on this board!!!
