Xantia electrics

Unread post by Quackers »

My Xantia is on the blink, wonder if anyone had any ideas or has had the same problem.

Tuesday night got home in the dark, turned the ignition off , pulled the key out and the battery light was still on, so was all the electric window/mirror/sunroof button lights and the stereo and the outdoor tempreture display. Which as you know is not normal. :P

No matter what i did i could not get them to go off, so i resorted to unplugging the battery. This resulted in the alarm going off.

So i ended up pulling the fuses for the electric windows etc out so as not to have a flat battery in the morning.

Now for the last 2 weeks my remote locking has been playing up 1 minute it works, next minute it does not. As well as the outdoor tempreture display saying it was -30C and all over silly temps.

Then on Wednesday night i pull up, (with these fuses still out), and now the car is doing more silly tricks. Turned ignition off, and then i heard the "door open with lights on" warning sound but it was not as loud as normal. So i switched my lights off, then the interior lights come on. Which once again is not normal. So now i have to disconnect that fuse because even with doors locked the interor lights stay on  .

Anybody any ideas on what i should do or try? Is all that run off one relay or computer?

Its a 1996 2.0 Turbo Activa.

I dont think a new ignition switch is to expensive from GSF. The fault with the temp gauge sounds like classic sensor failure, if replacing the switch doesn't cure it, the sensor is in the bottom of the passenger door mirror.

And intermitant remote locking (assuming the ignition switch doesn't fix it) is likely to be due to dry soldered joints on the transmitter fob. Mine was hopelessly unreliable when I first got it (car 8 years old) and after resoldering the joints on the main IC's it hasn't missed a beat for 4 months now. :D It is a very delicate little job soldering surface mount IC's though...best left to someone with better than average soldering skills and an appropriate fine tip soldering iron.

Well after hours of playing around this afternoon, it appears to be the windscreen wiper switch thats at fault. As it all works normally when you play with the cables that go to it.

Now just gotta find a scrap Xantia thats VSX, Exclusive or Activa, since they have extra buttons and stuff on the stalk.
