Sad to say, he died september the 7th. I only just got round to reading last Saturday's Telegraph and his obit was in there.
I remember him mainly from when he used to write in 'Bike', along with Mark Williams, one of the few other literate motoring writers.
The man liked his Citroens, but was not a big fan of diesels, however.....R.I.P.

His 2CV observations were spot on (in my opinion) over the years.
Also his motorcycle journalism through the 70's and 80's were spot on.
For someone with such a sound engineering and mechanical knowledge was fairly straight to the point instead of beating around the bush etc But yes ocassionally he spouted opinionated twaddle, but dont we all.

I did come across another book of his, in a library I think, about superchargers and turbochargers.JohnW wrote:So would I! He also wrote a wonderful book "The Power to Fly" on piston aero engines. Hard to find but worth the effort.uhn113x wrote:[:(] If you hadn't said that, Tom, I would have done [:(]

Anyone who discovered the beauty of Walter Becchia's flat twin (2CV et al) was OK in my book.
