xantia petrol keeps stalling

my xantia keeps stalling while you are coming up to junctions when you put the cluch in also sometimes as your going down the road it idels at around 3000 revs also when starting from cold untill up to tempreture the car stalls would this have anything to do with the choke i dunno any help would be appreciateed the car is a 1.8 16valve lx from john

Sounds like the stepper motor needs changing

had similar on a 2.0sei XM some time back - air control valve (stepper motor)

try giving it a clean up first....depending what type it may be possible to strip it down.
or, a decent squirt of carb cleaner down the feed pipe to it (engine off), then flip ignition on/off a few times to get the valve to operate, may just do the trick.
