I used to use those tree-based navigation aids but for a long time now I look at the information, set off and wonder where I am going, all stored information evaporated when I used to be able to drive the length of the country with one consultation of the RAC navigation aid.
I sometimes forget where I am going locally and end up at work instead of the shops. Work I retired from seven years since and is no longer there.

Few questions I need to work out / research the answers too:

C5

• are the high pressure injection pumps coded to the car - or is there anything else I need to know ahead of buying a second hand pump (likely a land rover one given matching part numbers)
• Has anyone dived into a pump? In my current hypothesis of the low pressure "lift pump" portion being at fault, is there anything internally I could stand a chance at fixing (e.g. non return valves or similar)?
• Am I wasting my time trying to get this running? Is anyone realistically going to want to take it on? (Current plan is aiming at MOT if I can get it running again as a viable usable car is better prospect than a big paperweight with lovely suspension)

• I need to understand if soldering in new key buttons is viable for some amateur waving a soldering iron.
• I need to get my head around changing some of the various gaskets I've bought and work out when I'm tackling its oil leak

2.2 HDi bi-turbo 173 bhp (and 370 Nm) flying machine
Manual 6 speed (sorry Mick!)
153,529 miles

Spec wise it is an Exclusive, so has the hydropneumatic "proper" suspension, part leather electric ( 8way??) adjustable seats.
It has the full length "moon roof" which definitely helps lift a predominantly black interior.
It makes do with the basic RD4 CD radio and little MFD screen (which had the usual "fine when it is nice and cold in winter but turns all black with increased temperatures".
Cruise control, electric boot, dual zone climate, lights everywhere including automatic door pocket Illumination, front and rear foot wells etc.

Timing belt done when I got the car (will confirm date and mileage in a bit)

Steering rack all ok when last checked but put an up to date photo up when I get chance.

Apart from a few drop links it's previous owner(s) didn't seem the type to check the basics ahead of the tests so lots of silly failures for blown bulbs variously.

Road tax / road fund licence is probably biggest thorn in its side, £305 a year from memory (do would guess it'll be £5-£10 more today)

No problem Mick, there's lots of them Auto, I'd guess the manual variants are the minority for the C5 X7s.

Your HP pump problem may not be the pump, the last one I did with similar problems I took the pump off and stripped it, could find nothing wrong with it or the other fuel control gadgetry and all bleeding attempts failed.
Got the car started by feeding Easy-start several times into the intake then it finally self bled and continued to run.

Yes, I've read of such issues getting it to go, and had much trouble getting mine going in the past. This time it has had a good long tow start (which did do the trick when I'd issues previously) engine spinning around a thousand rpm but no joy this time.

I have used "squirty foam" a good few times so am aware of it's high rate of expansion.

Today's lesson was:

"If you buy cheap, over it's "best before date" squirty foam it may initially be reluctant to leave the tin."

The rather oddly specific price is due to the way ebay charge for their services now. The seller used to pay ebay for selling, but now the buyer pays - so the seller would have put it up for (I think) £55, but ebay then add on their charges to make the selling price £57.87.
