After market parking sensors C5

Post by micky707 »

Has anyone attempted to fit a cheap set of reversing sensors to a C5 phase 11 05 to 07 VTR? how easy is it and do you wire up to the reverse light? And are these cheap ones on ebay any good? cheers

I have been looking at these as well. Was looking at a set with lights then thought, no need for lights is there ! so will get a set with buzzer only....have you been looking at any types in particular ?
My bumper is pre-drilled, yours |?

I've got some proper Valeo ones for sale. Forget which particular kit they are.

About £100 from memory.

No need for lights, just a buzzer, my bumper is pre drilled so cant see it being too difficult, just need to find out how to wire in to reverse light. They are as cheap as £12 on ebay, dont know what they are like though

Looked at reviews on Amazon, most are basic but do the job as far as I can see...£12-.25

I fitted a set of cheapies to my 406 and they seem to work OK except that there is not a flat enough area on the bumper do set them looking directly rearwards, in consequence they scream at you when they see a blade of grass but allow you to reverse into a wall, I have been meaning to modify them but haven't got round to it. I used the wireless ones, I think they were about £20, it saves running a lead to the dashboard, I found a little removable panel in the end of the dash and managed to pick up 12v from there.

Forgive my ignorance Peter but to fit I need an earth, link up somehow to reverse light and then find a power source? As you can tell Im not an electrics guy #-o

You should be able to find the reversing light lead somewhere in the back corner, if you don't have a circuit you can find it with a voltmeter with one lead earthed and a sharp pin on the other one which you can push through the insulation of each wire until you find the one that's only live with the revers lights on. An earth shouldn't be difficult, if you can find something that is screwed to the metal work you can slacken the screw and put the earth connection underneath or, you can find one that reads near enough zero ohms to earth with the pin method.

Getting a supply the dashboard end is difficult without knowing the electrical lay out of the electrics.

Hi MIcky
Are you sure you don't already have the wiring loom connections on your C5 anyway?
My 2005 VTR had sensors front and back and displayed on the front screen.
In my experience the C5 tends to have the wiring for all the options, they just don't fit everything depending on model purchased.
A number of forum members have retro-fitted cruise control in this way.

Is there not a control ECU for the sensors..?? Anybody got info on what is needed to "factory fit" parking sensors ? so we could work out the parts needed to be scrumped

Thats interesting if it is set up, when it dries up I shall take a look, the holes are there so thats a start, I did take a look at someone fitting a set on a Toyota and it looked pretty simple, just wire up to the reverse light, find an earth and your done.

And I am ??....:)....not.

I hope someone here can help point to the correct components to check for (or who knows if they are fitted and just need sensors plugging in) to see if it would be better to go to a scrap yard and get the necessary bits ....always nicer to have original fixtures.
