Xantia Hdi not Starting

Post by gadgetgricey »

Started the breaker up to move it this morning, as needed to take a few bits off it.

Removed the glove box and the wooden horizontal bar above the radio, now the thing wont start,.

Turns over fine, but does not want to catch.

Hopefully is something simple, but anyone got any ideas on what to check first.

Thanks again

Is the fuel pump in the tank humming as soon as you switch on, to pressurise the fuel feed to injection pump? If not, try thumping the tank?

HDI owners will no doubt be along with a few other ideas

Yep fuel pump does seem to prime as normal.

I'm thinking something electrical/relay etc due to what I was messing around with.

Any suggestions??

Cheers

Is it possible you disturbed the unit that handles the immobiliser? I think that it might be in the area of the glove box (based on what I read), but I could easily be wrong.

I dont think its immobiliser related, as I think the car beeps at you and a "key" symbol appears on the dash whilst trying to start the car, but happy to be proven wrong.

Might be wrong though, will have another look in the morning.

Does the key symbol go out after a second? If not, then it IS the immobiliser.

Might be going blind but cant even see the key symbol illuminate, defo does not stay on when cranking the engine and no warning sounds.

Also just realised that the central locking has stopped working (via the remote or manually??), which makes me think its something electrical?

Any suggestions greatly received.

Thanks

If you removed the glovebox and now your central locking isn't working (as well as the engine not starting) you might have disturbed the CPH (Texton) unit which is mounted behind the glovebox.

This controls central locking, alarm, immobiliser etc. Without this unit working the engine will not start because the CPH unlocks the engine ECU when you turn on the key with the correct transponder in it. Normally you would (on a S2) see the key warning light on the dashboard light for about half a second when you turn the key on, if you don't it also points to the CPH not working.

If you have a Lexia handy try running a diagnostic on the CPH and I bet it won't respond. If you don't have one check the wiring behind the glovebox that goes to the CPH.

Sorry for the "blurry" image as taken on my phone.

Image

Only wires cut were the glovebox light. Everything else seems in place, but where abouts is the CPH?

Dont have a Lexia, so any other options. If all seems connected, would disconnecting the battery for an hour and then reconnecting it be worth a try???

Its worked on Saabs and Alfa's for me in the past :-D

Thanks again

And yes, try taking the battery off for a while, also check the relevant fuses in the cabin fuse box.
