Used spare key programmed?

Post by kentc5 »

Hello guys,

When I bought the car came only with one original key and the Citroen key code scratch card.
I bought from eBay a used 3 button remote from another C5, now my idea is to change the blade and the transpoder ... so much my car and reprogram the remote fob to work with my car?

From what I am reading online it can be done...
But every locksmith I am calling says to bin it and get a new key. Altyhough this is not what I a reading online.

Is there anyone local"ish" from the club that can do this?

Cheers
Vasilis.

I removed the blade from the key fob ... now I need to go and cut a new one of my car's original key

I drilled the two little holes just a bit and the blade slided out.

I went down this route 3 or 4 years ago. Bought a three button fob off ebay. Drilled out and threw away the old key. Got a new one cut and fitted it. Got a mobile locksmith to programme it and the final result was that I can unlock with the key. The key will start the car but it won't lock it on the button.

If it cannot work properly and it only locks/unlocks manually and starts the car I don't mind ... I just want a spare working key for the piece of mind.

But I must admit I am really pissed off with the local lock smiths... mobile or not! one told me he will not program a key he does not supply. And the other two told me to bin it as it will never work!!
How unprofessional is that they just want to get the top money or nothing.

I now irelevant but being a professional in the IT business providing services my self pisses me off when I see these kind of money grabbing so called "professionals"

That's what I decided. I just wanted something for emergency use.

At least if the key locks are frozen ... you can still unlock the car remotely ;) :)
