Xantia Mk.1 Tailgate Push Button

Post by bonnyman750 »

Hi All,

just had success with repairing a spare tailgate push button unit for a Mk.1 Xantia which had failed springs (common fault due to water ingress?). I managed to source an almost direct replacement spring from RS Components and they fit and work a treat. So I thought that I would pass on the info.
The springs are RS number 751-411 and come (unfortunately) with 10 in a plastic bag for £7.30 +V.A.T. and delivery (I did get them through a friend in the motor trade!)..But I thought that it worked out a lot cheaper than a new unit from Citroen...

From the RS data sheet...

Type Compression
Material Music Wire
Minimum Work Length 10.6
Rate 0.43N mm
Diameter OD 3.6mm
Free Length 25.5mm
Load Min. Work L. N 6.37
Wire Diameter 0.4mm
Approx. No Work Coils 18.5

just type in rs 751-411 into google...

Hope this helps...

Cheers

A quick update from Service.Citroen (unit not includiing key barrel)...

Part Number: 00008726V8 Description: TRUNK LOCK Quantity: 1 Price excl. VAT: 51.33 GBP Price incl. VAT: 61.60 GBP Total incl. VAT: 61.60 GBP

So £7.30 + V.A.T.+ Del. for 10 springs ain't bad... 8-)

You've got me thinking.

Early '90s Pug airhorns failed because water rested inside them, and being mounted with brushgear to the bottom, the brush springs rotted to nowt.

Sounds like I could possibly make brush springs out of piano wire.
