C5 Slow pickup.

Post by Alec B »

Hi our C5 1-6 HDi doesn't pickup well at all from standing and changing gear. I have seen some posts on EGR valves but am not too familiar with them. Would that be the likely cause and how easy are they to get to and service? By the way we are getting no errors on dash and all lights go out as soon as car has started. My wife said it also stalls if rev's aren't kept high on pull off. Is there anything else to check? Also if travelling at low revs i.e 5th gear @ 50mph you can feel it hesitating. Any ideas?

It sounds like a possible MAF sensor fault rather than EGR problems. You could remove the sensor and give it a clean with electrical contact cleaner. Or replace it with a known good one for testing. A Lexia should be able to tell you any faults as I bet it has stored a code despite not putting a visual warning on the dash.

Mine is slow to pick up too, but only when the revs are under 1500. I just presumed that the engine doesn't have as much torque as my 2.0 406 and it's also a heavier body.

Agree with Chris that this is indicative of a MAF sensor defect.

Thanks for the replies. I'll take a look this weekend as I have a bit of a to do list and this can be added too. Just a quickie where is the MAF sensor on the C5? Thanks.

Immediately after the airbox.

click image for a larger one.

It is the thing with the grey electrical connector adjacent to the gap between the battery and fusebox.

DON'T touch the two wires inside, or drop it.

Im pretty sure it is similar on the 1.6HDi.

As Steve says, dont touch the sensor inside but you can clean it with an electrical contact cleaner spray. The blast it with as air line if you can.

The 1.6s ive driven have not been flat below 2000 rpm, so it would seem there is somehting not quite right.
