Xantia HDi 110 EGR Valves

Post by DHallworth »

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if I unplug the EGR valves on our Xantia HDi if it will trigger the engine management warning?

Someone has told me the EGR valves could be what is causing the car to smoke.

If it does I know someone with an ELIT machine, will this work on a 2000 Xantia?

A friend who looked at it reckons it's running rich as it's smoking slightly at idle. It's an unburnt diesel smoke from it too.

It's had injector cleaner through it a few times now and it's made no difference.

Thanks

David.

I would be surprised if unplugging the valves didn't trigger the EML. This isn't a foolproof check either, if the valve itself is leaking unplugging it will make little difference. It would be better to remove the valve and fabricate a blanking plate - if only for test purposes.

Sorry don't know about the Elit.

ELIT will work with a mk2 xantia as long as it has the lead with the 16pin EOBD style plug.

Why not simply unplug the vacuum hose running from the solenoid and insert a plug in the now open end of the hose? I've done it on mine since I bought it and haven't had problems or any codes being triggered

Is that the small rubber hose?

I disconnected mine on my 306 HDi and had no problems but don't want to trigger warning lights on the girl friends HDi or I'd not be forgiven for a while!

Yes the front hose on the front relay if that makes sense.

Hi Dickie,

Thanks for the advice.

I am unsure as to which hose you reckon I should unplug so I took a picture of the valves on our car and labelled each hose 1 through 4.

Could you tell me the number of the hose that I need to unplug?

Thanks

Assuming that the valve's leaking at the moment (due to carbon build up) leading to the smoke, unplugging the vacuum hose will make no difference, the carbon will still cause the valve to leak.

Thanks!

I'll whip the EGR's off and give them a clean and then unplug that pipe then.
