Recommended Garages & Services - Locations

Post by myglaren »

At the request of Mr Citronut I have begun to add the locations of those garages and services that members have recommended.

Some may be omitted where it is unclear if they are still trading.

More will be added as time permits.

Officially recommendations should be made to a mod or admin for inclusion here but as our members are a remarkably sensible lot we tend to ignore that rule until such time as someone acts the silly bugger - in which case the post will be sent to the flames.

We do reserve the right to edit out anything disagreeable and of course spam, which the rule is designed to exclude.

Please post in the forum though, not in this thread, otherwise your submissions may well be buried, as with the Lexia Locations thread.

Do let me/us know of any errors. Not above making mistakes unfortunately.

Do remember that it is only the results of your personal experience that are to be included.

Looking at the map I noticed the "Bermuda Triangle" between Gloucester, St Albans and Nottingham. It's the wasteland of the Midlands. Only modern Citroboxes and Peugeots round here. Strangely not that many Renaults to be seen apart from older Scenics. I do see the odd Xantia and a fellow up the road has a 405 estate which I think maybe up for sale now. Besides my Xm I have seen just two others in this area over the years. I have just bought another Bx and the only other one I ever saw was in Walsall many many years ago. That was a red estate. Now if you want Ford, Rover, Honda or Vauxhall yes this is the place to be. Duh.

Bx 1.6 TGS Auto 50k A rare beast by all accounts. A bit tired but getting better by the day. Gone.
'96 XM 2.5TD VSX.......Sadly sold. What an idiot! I should have held on to that.

Sadly expert Citroen hydraulic knowledge is slipping away from garages these days and there may need to be some editing of the north-east England section of the map:
  • C&D Discount Auto Parts (actually C&C!), Hylton Road, Sunderland: no longer have anyone there who knows about the suspension system so are no better than any other garage for specific Citroen work now -- confirmed by phone today on 0191 510 9338
  • Dancars on Durham Road, Birtley: I do not think they exist any more -- confirmed with a good search engine search
  • G. D. Fraser, Toward Road, Sunderland: they are still in business and prepare to have a look but say they do not really do specialist Citroen work anymore-- confirmed on the phone today on 0191 565 9132. Basically warned me that parts aren't available which isn't necesarily true as I have great luck down south with Pleiades, BL Autos and Chevronics.

Dancars still operating, bought my Civic from him and have had daughter's C3 in for MOT recently.

I'll PM his number. He doesn't advertise - no need.

Forums like ours will surely have an increasingly vital role in chasing down difficult parts, as dealerships 'move on' and are generally less prepared to do detective work, especially for small parts.

Yep, completely agree. However, when the garage starts with a defeatist attitude it doesn’t exactly inspire me with confidence.

Thank God for our forums! They’ve enabled to get parts from around the world because of relationships formed with people. My favourite was flying to The Netherlands and hiring a car to go and get a huge haul of 480 parts to take home for a project!

I'd like to recommend Letchworth Car Care. They look after my C8. Had new handbrake cable, repaired a faulty rear brake caliper (without fitting a new caliper, unlike Citroen) and also made up a new brake line which isn't available from Citroen anymore. The guys are honest and busy and difficult to get booked into because they are honest. They may ask you to leave the car there and see what they can do, normally 3 days it's done. They've never let me down. No, I'm not affiliated in any way with the company or any person working there or their relatives.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Hello folks

I wanted to let you all know about a small company in Leicestershire called Brake caliper solutions ltd

i needed a replacement hand brake spring for the front caliper of my Xantia, which had snapped.

None of the 'Specialists' I contacted could help. The 2 ladies that run this company found me a new spring and also sold me a pair of piston dust seals, without having to buy the bits I don't need. They are knowledgeable and have lots of old stock Citroen parts at realistic prices, so give them a try

regards

James
