Hello all,
I need some advice on how to continue.
I bought a SH Peugeot 5008 1.5 BlueHDI with EAT8 a few days ago as my C4 EGS let me down (in very cold days).
I drove it around 500km back home in 2 different days (starting at -14 in the morning) and no issues.
Yesterday morning (-4 deg) I started and tried driving to work, but after 2 min (aprox. 400m) odd fuel smell entered the cabin.
I reached the next semaphore and steam came from under the hood; pulled over as quickly as I could (maybe 2 more min.) and when I opened the hood I noticed that the fuel return line from the injector closest to gearbox was lifted and a LOT of fuel was gushing out. I turned off, evaluated a bit, put the connector back in and drove back home directly hoping it will not pop up again. When I left already a small puddle of fuel was under the car.
At home I cleaned the engine area with brake cleaner and compressed air to the best extent that I could and then started the engine to heat it up and burn the rest of the remaining residues. Some smoke/fume/vapor appeared but not that much and then I let it a bit off. I then drove it in town and when I came back a lot of smoke was rising from under the hood.
I noticed it was coming out of the DPF heatshield. Somehow diesel ended up there too and between the external heatshield and the DPF itself there is a kind of glass wool insulation.
Today I went to a shop lifted the vehicle and I could see that it fumigated just from that area (the glass wool between the DPF and the shield).
In the shop the guys further cleaned using brake cleaner and compressed air.
On my way to the shop and back I could not see a lot of smoke anymore, but I still can't be totally relaxed as a regeneration cycle would increase the temperature more and I fear that something might actually catch fire. It is now basically a glass wool soaked in some diesel so to me it seem flammable. I also don't know if all the "fuel" was consumed during the episode from yesterday or not.
Different guys told me to relax and just drive it a bit more and eventually it will stop fumigating.
I would like to replace the heatshield completely but I don't know if I can find it as a separated spare part as my account is affected by the Stellantis migration too.
I will also replace the injector fuel return/overflow line. At the moment the one which popped up is kept in place by a zip-tie.

If you search for the "5008 DPF heatshield" on Ebay a fair number of choices come up. Probably worth looking through them to see if you can find the one you need
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
