Can anyone advise on options when installing a replacement (used) BSM.
58 plate 307cc (2.0 hdi)
I've got a few faults on scanning that are persistent and seem to point towards a failing BSM so was considering a cheap replacement off ebay as a lazy way of avoiding checking through the spaghetti of wires. Obvs risking buying a faulty unit if used but I'm just curious about trying it.
The questions I'd really like the answer to is, if I buy a box with the same number (9664055780), can I just change any options in diagbox and I'm good to go or can there be hardware differences?
For example I can see a matching box for a 207 CC which presumably has everything the 307cc needs, but there's also a normal 307 which although is from the same series, may not necessarily have some hardware to talk to the roof ecu, or are they all the same and just need to set it up.
Maybe I'm over thinking but you know what these cars are like, just because 2 things are apparently identical, doesn't make it true.
I've attached the faults that have returned for info should anyone stumble across this in the future, but I'm not too concerned with targeting them in this thread, I'm more focused on do's and donts when swapping a BSM.
That said, for clarity, I have already replaced the brake switch but after clearing, it reappears after a day or two along with p1693 and U0122. U2003 didn't clear at all. I've also found no corrosion on the pins or plugs of the BSM.
I'm not too concerned with the first 4 faults, I think I upset the egr when I cleaned it and it's been like that ever since, the additive fault has been present since I've owned the car, dpf still clears every 400-500 miles.
BSM had it's own fault code of f000 (not communicating with CAN) and BSI has same code (fault engine wiring housing, ecu mute on the CAN)
So I thought for the sake of £40 I could swap it out, programme if necessary, and see if some of the faults disappear.
Air circuit fault is because egr was temporarily blanked. Cruise control coherence cleared and hasn't returned but probably will in a few hundred miles (CC and speed limiter will rarely fail, but ignition off and on allows them to work again for many weeks before it'll come back for a journey).

Re: BSM replacing information
If the 96***** number matches, then it should be compatible. The BSM has no one-time programmable features so should be plug and play.

Re: BSM replacing information
Excellent, I'll try my luck. Only thing is, I've noticed the screws weren't in it suggesting it's been taking out previously so I guess it's possible it's not even the correct one...

That does get a bit 'interesting' to try and fault find your way around, then...MixerFistit wrote: 25 Nov 2025, 11:59 Excellent, I'll try my luck. Best bet then might be to get the part number from a BSM 'known' to be taken from a 307cc in a breakers yard, for comparison?

Re: BSM replacing information
It seems to be a bit of a minefield and I'm not sure a breakers would help much (unless I could confirm an exact twin). The code below the 9x number seems to be useful for matching to a 307CC (the BSM-L11-xxxx) but then the part numbers can differ even with a manufacturer difference of 2 months. I don't know if that's anything to do with engine differences or trim level etc.
So I can match the 9x number to a 207cc, a 307cc and even a normal 307. But I can also match different 9 numbers to the 307cc where they both have L11. I can see a matching Lx and 9x to a 207 so does that mean mine is originally from a 207 or is the L number sod all to do with it lol
Edit
I've even found a matching 9x number with BSM-R01-xxxx with a newer manufacturer date. AI is telling me the internals could be different but I trust that less than I trust my ebay parts cannon.
I'd be happy to just go along with advice to match part number but as I'm not even sure if it's an original, I'm a bit paranoid, would love to know what the other number means
This would've been a lot easier when the mods had access to the VIN/parts catalogue lol

Re: BSM replacing information
This is all I have, it is not clear which cars have the Siemens box fitted. Note that the same BSM part was often shared by different models of Peugeot and Citroen.
Maybe you could get the PSA part number matching your VIN from a dealer, but there is still the problem of cross referencing that to a 9*** number.

Re: BSM replacing information
Thank you, I'll try my luck with a dealer. Hopefully they'll be willing to confirm the one I have is the original and then it should just be a case of matching the 9x and Lx as even if matching the L11 isn't necessary, they're available. Or they may even advise on a better revision etc.

Re: BSM replacing information
OK, the dealer suggested the part number I gave is from a 207 which seems to match what I was seeing online. He's suggested 6500CK is the match which matches nicely to X_V6's findings
This still leaves me with the problem be predicted of matching it to a 9x number and there's more than one number on ebay but fortunately, L04 seems to be consistent in the results. 9x numbers do seem to change over the years so I think I'm narrowing in on the correct part. I'll hopefully be back with a conclusion when it arrives.
Edit..
Now that I'm searching for the correct thing I've found this old thread. Hopefully any number mentioned in the thread is a match for 6500CK as Marc seemed adamant that as long as that matched, that was the important bit. L04 seems to be cropping up in the thread too.

Re: BSM replacing information
Yes, 6500CK seemed to be the most common variant at the time, so you should be able to find one, it is frustrating that the actual part number is not printed on the unit.
