Lucas replacement injection pump. Coding?

Unread post by Mileskirke »

Hi
As you can see I’m new to the forum and just about competent with Morris Minor technology. Last year I bought a 2002 Kangoo 1.9D with 250000 kilometres on the clock which ran perfectly for 3 months, then the engine management light, the preheat light, began to appear after the first attempt to start, after starting a few times it disappeared and it ran properly, this went on for a few weeks Now the engine warning light is on continuously and the engine is running on reduced power, there is no smoke. I have been to 2 different mechanics for diagnostics, the 1st said the injector pump internal calibration control was kaput and quoted 1500€ for the repair by a specialist but wouldn’t/couldn’t guarantee it would fix it, the 2nd said it wasn’t the pump but the diagnostics were a bit vague, I’ve asked him for a screen shot but it has yet to arrive. As I’m sure you’ll understand a thicko like me doesn’t know what to think though I suspect there is a fault with the injector pump. I’ve sourced a used pump which the vendor is guaranteeing as working, my questions are as follows:

The pump is a Lucas Delphi R8640A111B

If fitted does the new pump need coding? If so how? This is info for my mechanic.

Has anyone got any idea what might be causing the issues outlined above?
