I've put that thread as a 'Sticky' Matt, along with this one.

My only concern would be certification on the likes of these but unlikely to cause an issue

The thread Marc linked to is a guy who's developed stainless replacement for the rear firmness regulator to wheel cylinder hose/pipe assemblies, wouldn't be much for him to reconfigure them to front suspension pipes, so between his hoses and my fittings, it's looking like the community is successfully mitigating the unavailability of parts for the X7, and other hydractive systems.

Can we definitely ** cure the rack first :-D

** Think we are nearly there, but no one has quite put the theory into practice yet.

That is actually a stonkingly good idea Matt!!! I'd reached out to Stu explaining the timing isn't ideal for me, but the car is too nice to scrap, so give me second dibbs on it so I could make something work for it rather than let it go to scrap. But if it goes to Marc, my nose certainly wouldn't be put out of joint if it went to such a good home.

Thank you gentlemen, but it was more of my heart strings tugging than my common sense! As they say on Dragon's Den "I'm Out", but thanks for the thought and Good luck with solving the steering issue. 🤞

Marc, Between our PM's and this thread, you should know that we evidently hold you in very high regard. That being said, as fond as I am of you, and as much as I appreciate everything you do for the forum, I'm getting excited about acquiring Stu's C5 having a pop at the steering problem, testing my fittings on it, and giving it to my wife as a courtesy car while I put her car into the workshop for a few months and going to town on it.

I often regret doing away with my C5.
Never enough to buy another one though.
What I have suits my needs, not that I see it very often.

I've just PM'd Stu my mobile number to start the process of buying his C5, so his one will be available with a fresh test, new cuni & stainless hydraulic pipework with stainless fittings, steering rack solution implemented on it, should either of you change your minds ;-)

Just for clarity, Svod and I are attacking different sides of the system, Svod is making replacements for the hoses from the firmness regulators to the cylinders, I'm developing fittings to allow our guys to make pipes for the BHI to the firmness regulators using technology derived from brake pipes. My fittings should also work on other applications like Xantia cylinders etc. But I see no competition or threat from Svod, I'm actually elated that he's bringing his solution to market, as that's another piece of the parts supply jigsaw puzzle solved.

Hope that you are both successful in your ventures, it would solve a lot of problems for C5 owners and they may be the possibility of helping C6, Xantia and BX owners too

Thanks Jay, appreciate now the different problems being tackled by both parties. Like you, I'm just pleased that anyone is solving these challenges (obviously with slight caveat that I will be a bit less pleased if they offer them at £1000 per pipe as clearly an uneconomic solution isn't a great deal better than no solution! :) )

Cheers Steve! But having repiped a BX from top to toe a number of years ago, I don't think there's any call for the stuff that Svod and I are developing, as IIRC the BX is all the old LHM fittings, in 3.5mm and 4.5mm format. What I'm terming LHM fittings are the ones with a rubber tube that gets pushed onto a bulbous section on the pipe used on pre-hydractive cars, like this:

EDIT: Added better picture of LHM pipe end:

I bought a tool to make those ends from Pleiades, an off the shelf item for them, in the naughties (god I'm getting old), so that system has good support by Pleiades (the godfathers of Citroen Hydraulics IMHO) and Euro Car Care (who are also very good), so my stuff is more for C5 / C6 / XM(?) / Xantia(?).
