One other thing on the fun facts list led me to this. Should you wish to, you can take a flight in the Grace Spitfire at Northamptonshire's Sywell Aerodrome....also does a big classic car show.

Damn, I as going to mention Alan Moore. I also met him at a signing some years ago. It must have been the late eighties as he discussed the two part Superman story* he wrote which he wrote to basically close the silver age Superman's time in the DC universe. He disclosed that he wrote the story as a sort of two-fingers to John Byrne who was shortly to introduce the post-crisis, much reduced in power version of Superman. It was fabulous curtain call for Superman.

You can see what long odds it was against me mentioning Alan Moore today. Before today I had never heard of him, there was a 44 to 1 against chance of me picking out that fun fact as I chose it with a random number generator, and the chances of selecting Northamptonshire today were 27 to 1 against, and actually selecting a list with that fact in it quite remote too, and even if it was in a list if I had relied on my own biased selection, I probably wouldn't have pulled that one out to comment on.

Your additional information is a random bonus, from someone who appreciates his talents. Excellent and one of the bonuses of ploughing on with the thread.

I used to enjoy a game of skittles in a pub in Towcester which we frequented when my mate moved up there. The game we played had 9 skittles set in a half moon shaped table and you had three cheeses on each turn. Great fun but rather noisy!! Bar billiards was far more widespread and my father-in-law's pub had a BB team which played in a local league. I played a few matches when I didn't have to work behind the bar and developed a true appreciation of the subtleties of the game!! :-D

As usual geographically challenged.
My eldest lad and his then girlfriend lived in Kettering and I and my girlfriend from years before took them out to dinner.
Also went to a CCC rally in Kettering.
Otherwise, nothing.

Seeing as Kettering gets a mention, while hiding this in a spoiler with no recommendation for actually viewing it in a post in the past, it is Northamptonshire's and therefore Kettering's day in the spotlight, and I still hear the refrain from this, whenever Kettering is mentioned. I take it for granted that no-one will like it :-D

In saying that it lays down a challenge....don't leave Northamptonshire's musical day in the spotlight to rely on Principal Edwards Magic Theatre "The Kettering Song" to supply the only entry :-D The lyrics are if odd, mildly amusing.

There are quite a few places within Northamptonshire which I have visited over the years but only one which engenders recurring memories for me:

Aside from the obvious motor racing events which I have attended there was also one memorable day when the Ferrari Owner's Club decided to go for 'the longest parade of single make cars in the world' record. We had a great day there admiring all the cars which we would never be able to get in and out of nowadays, never mind the affordability:

Following on and looking at Northamptonshire music automatically led me to various compilations over the years around the British GP and I think this rendition of a certain Elton John song during the Covid crisis is one of the different ones I found:

Well that was very pleasant, youtube autoplayed on from Principal Edwards to Frupp's album Modern Masquerades (1975). Right in the "progressive groove", produced by King Crimson's Ian McDonald. Would have been bang on topic for Antrim's day in the sun seeing as they were formed in Belfast.

Talking about being "bang on topic" where are the Vehicle Registration Area codes for Northamptonshire :?:

Eight registration codes, select at random and its number 7. Off for a search for an EG plate.

Probably one of the more obscure ones...it was for "The Soke of Peterborough 1931 to 1965"
