Re: Citroen xsara saloon lights turning on by themselves and no rear fog light
Well let's just hope it's the Comms unit. I've known plenty of these fail with the same sort of symptoms - faulty lights going on and off or indicators playing up - on some of the units it can be the contacts on the stalks - for indicators where they constantly get swept across the board until it or the stalk contacts wear out. On the barrels for the lights - again, these can just wear making intermittent contact etc.
Let us know how you get on. But be very careful with the clockspring. When you get the new one be careful not to turn it and make sure it doesn't move when fitting, and also that your steering wheel was dead ahead and straight. There's no ESP, so no coding and calibration to worry about with steering wheel angle sensor.

Re: Citroen xsara saloon lights turning on by themselves and no rear fog light
It is possible the clockspring mechanism has a visual indicator to see when it is in the centre of its travel. On the one for the Xantia, there were two arrowheads. If they were lined up with each other it was in the central position. If, however, you had turned the central part through 360 degrees one arrowhead would then move round by 90 degrees. I CANNOT remember more than that, so if your clockspring has this function please be careful to get it right.

Re: Citroen xsara saloon lights turning on by themselves and no rear fog light
There is a visual indicator on the com2000 unit to show when its in the middle, there is a kind of threaded groove with a pointer (the little white bit circled in green) in it, every time its rotated the little pinter moves along the groove so you can see its in the straight ahead position or not. However also on com2000 units the rotary part stays locked in the 12 o'clock position & cant be rotated unless you push the centre part (circled in orange) in, when the steering wheel is fitted this pushes down on it & unlocks it. If you push down in it & rotate it it will go a full 360 then lock again in the 12 o'clock position.
