Re: 1.6 HDI buying advice
16v was only up to about 2011 ( exact date depends on model), so if it's after this 8v is probably correct. The only real issue is the injectors which like to fail, not that hard to change but it can get pricey if they all need doing. Cam belt is 10 years / 100k, but they can shed teeth before that so get it changed if not done.

Re: 1.6 HDI buying advice
The 8V ones are generally better. These are list of the more common engine codes for the DV6 1.6 engines: As you can see on the later models, they reverted back to 8 Valves.
DV6ATED4 | 90 PS (66 kW; 89 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 16-valve |
DV6 B | 75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 16-valve |
DV6TED4 | 110 PS (81 kW; 108 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 16-valve |
DV6C | 115 PS (85 kW; 113 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 8-valve |
DV6D | 92 PS (68 kW; 91 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 8-valve |
DV6FE | 75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 8-valve |
DV6FD | 95 PS (70 kW; 94 hp)[4] | Turbo-Diesel 8-valve |
DV6FC | 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp)[4] | Turbo-Diesel 8-valve |

Re: 1.6 HDI buying advice
Apparently it's the DV6C (9HD), so all looks well there.
@Richard, thanks for the info.
I had budgeted that I'll want to change the cambelt, as the car has only done 50k but is a 14 plate, a rough guess is hopefully around the £400/500 mark, but well worth it for piece of mind.
Really appreciate your replies. Ta very much
