Heat Shrink

Post by Subsonicnat »

We all know there is heat shrink tubing, but,,Was looking for TAPE with the same properties.
Found it in Screwfix,,,it doesn t need heat but STRETCHING to about twice its length..
Works a treat, The times I forgot to run tubing over the wire before soldering then cutting and soldering again, drove me mad,Trying to get it done quickly..
No heat required it sticks to itself with the stretching acting, waterproof as well..
And it costs about £2:50 for 3 meters,I cut it down the middle as it is about and inch wide
Amazing stuff,Like it a lot.. =D> .
Well worth putting in the boot for emergencies.

Isn't that self-amalgamating tape? Used for sealing the plugs on satellite dishes and other things.

That's the stuff. The more you stretch it, the narrower it gets. It really does amalgamate, so needs to be sliced off (sharp blade) if you need to remove it.

I though it looked suspiciously cheap - I paid about £5 for a roll. A fairly large roll though.

Heat shrink OVER self amalgamating tape for water proof joints. Bonus is you use less tape.

Heat-shrink sleeving comes adhesive-lined and plain. The adhesive melts with the heat and forms a completely sealed joint. For extra protection, use two or more layers of h/s sleeving.

You can get split shrink wrap, expensive though - & really don't know how it works.
