Yes, Jim, it was a 2 hour program. If it were to come around again I would HIGHLY recommend you make time to watch it. Nothing was fast (unlike Guy, normally), and the engineering was incredible. For example, there were no really accurate blueprints, but a young German man (early twenties) who really enjoyed making models had constructed a 3D computer model (using photographs), which JCB (who made the hull) improved.

Guy did want to run this tank at the Lincoln Armistice Day parade, and the City Council were happy for this to happen. Unfortunately the Police had concerns, so it did not happen. What they did instead was to drive the tank at Cambrai, where the tank first proved its' worth.

They named this tank "Deborah II", after the MkIV that Guy saw for the first time. One of the eight crew on this tank was the grandson of the commander of the original "Deborah", which was discovered recently (and is in the barn of a Cambrai farmer who is very interested in the battle).

Not on TV - but sad to hear of the passing of Rodney Bewes (Likely Lads, and many others).

"Oh, what happened to you?
Whatever happened to me?
What became of the people we used to be?
Tomorrow's almost over
Today went by so fast
The only thing to look forward to is the past?"

One of my very favourite actors in one of my very favourite shows - the Likely Lads - I still enjoy watching episodes even now... Classic and timeless...

What with David Cassidy passing as well today that's two more iconic figures from my teenage years now gone :(

Makes me realise just how old I'm getting and just how long ago I was a teenager...

For a delightfully funny 30 minutes - with a beginning, a muddle and an end - try this, which I watched with mounting disbelief last night:

BBC iPlayer, BBC Three (|||), "Inside No.9: Zanzibar" TX 4.1.2018 30mins
with Bill Paterson, Rory Kinnear and a delightful selection of others.
The script will have you wanting more and wondering what the heck next . . .

Tonight, at 21:00, on More 4 (channel 14 on Freeview) is the film "Holocaust: Night Will Fall". I have seen this twice before, and it does not get any easier to watch. I feel that it is probably one of the best warnings of what horrors Mankind is capable of inflicting upon itself.

International Holocaust Day is 27th January. As far as I can tell Channel 4 (on at least one of their channels) show this film as a reminder.

Has anyone else marvelled at how incredibly bad the "Goblin Works Garage" series is? :-)

The tragedy is that mankind continues to do so :( Nothing has been learned... Sadly, I guess it will always be so...

I remember watching Schindler's List many years ago... One of the few films to bring me to tears...

No way I can watch such films nowadays...

Schindler's List had that effect on us too. We saw it at a nearby cinema. At the end of the film, the audience of a hundred or so just sat there, in stunned silence, many in tears. It was quite some time before most people found the motivation to leave.

I've watched a good few films on 'the final solution', dramatised (eg Passenger) and documentary (eg the Panorama investigation into the companies who designed and constructed the camps), and the BBC series and book 'Auschwitz'. There was also the young Richard Dimbleby's liberation report.

The Boy in Striped Pajamas is devastating too, but doesn't have the cumulative impact of Schindler - a film that I'm still not ready to watch again.

talking of which the Hollandsche Schouwberg is an interesting site on this theme, if you've time in Amsterdam in the course of the charity cycle Jim... and for anyone else who's visiting.

https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractio ... vince.html ...its where the Amsterdam Jews were kept to await the trains to Auschwitz. The place seems to retain its 'sadness'

the heading on the website implies that there's an entry fee but that's only advertising for guided tours which include it.

On to happier TV stuff - if any of you have Amazon Prime, the last 20 mins of the last but one episode of The Grand Tour (a serious Clarkson documenting the Rally battle between Lancia and Audi) are very good indeed, as is the first part of the latest episode.

That does sound really good, sadly I won't get to see it as I don't have Amazon Prime, but if its anywhere near as good as "Rallying, the Killer Years" was; it'll be fabulous.

I believe this is a re-hash of "The Story of Group B Rallying", originally aired in 2012; its good, with some wonderful footage and insightful interviews with the big names of the period. I had a look to see if it was available online... appears not, but I'm reliably informed its oft repeated [no surprises there eh, snigger!].

Also very good, produced and presented IIRC by Jeremy Clarkson is

That looks good :) Shame it'll be infested with adverts though

Lovely set of blacksmiths tools there... One of my uncles was a blacksmith and farrier... He had a very similar set.. Used to love watching him make the shoes on the forge and then fit them to big Shire Horses..
