Was thinking of starting a new and on-going piccy thread, featuring roads which ought not to be missed.
Something like these, maybe...
A832, Glen Docherty, Loch Maree in the distance
Could this be a goer?

Re: Spectacular Roads
They look like lovely Activa roads to me but then again, the one vehicle I'd love to explore them on is my bike, especially the second one...

Re: Spectacular Roads
Love that picture looking down towards Loch Maree...I carry that one with me round in my head despite never having seen it in the flesh since 1971, on a holiday up in Gairloch.
On a smaller scale, but still reasonably spectacular there is Vale Street in Bristol. Fiat 500's had a bit of trouble getting up such inclines at some point, even with tthe Stig behind the wheel. Jim did come up with some bravado claiming a C1 would have no trouble with its poky little engine, but I don't know if there has been any first-hand evidence!
Regards Neil

Re: Spectacular Roads
Well known in cycling circles and on everyone's bucket list to do... It gets very crowded as a result and becomes dangerous.Stickyfinger wrote:or Gold Hill in Shaftesbury
Also the location of the iconic Hovis advert... The one that seems to be in Northern lands with the lad on his delivery bike pushing it up the hill. It has the incredibly lovely 2nd movement of Dvorák’s 'New World' Symphony as its musical accompaniment...
A piece of classical music known to millions but few know who it's by or what it's called sadly... One of my all-time favourites; not just that particular bit but the whole symphony...

You would get about a third of the way up (with a run up), and then pause, and go back down again (even with 4X4)!Stickyfinger wrote:Down would worry me more

Re: Spectacular Roads
My favourite is the A836 (I think) Lairg to Tounge road road, it has everything, forests, rivers lochs with beaches and mountains and about half way Altnahara village which has hardly changed in a century - and very little traffic, most of the time.
