Bleed c5 rear lds ??

Post by zs&tas »

Hello, had a bad powersteering leak on my c5 a while back and chucked in any old oilly stuff untill I could get it fixed, well now the rear end is pretty stiff so im guna grab some lds and replace the fluid.
Are there bleed nipples on the back end ? Where are they ? And how much lds does the reservoir and pipes hold ? Thanks a bunch !

You haven't said whether this is a Mk1 or Mk2 C5, but regardless of this, I have a bad feeling about this. I may be wrong, but I suspect on the 2004 138 diesel model the hydraulic system feeds both the suspension and the steering circuits, despite having a separate power steering pump. The fact that you have already put "any old oily stuff" into the system, could mean it is likely that you have contaminated the whole hydraulic system if you haven't used LDS fluid. The system holds about 4.3 - 4.8 litres. Without wanting to be alarmist, if the rear has stiffened up since , it could be a result of perished seals due to contamination in the hydraulic circuit etc., but I can't say for sure based on what you have said.

What a can of worms you got now! I keep 2 litres of LDS in boot just in case of this. It won't stop a high pressure leak but it could save the day for getting home without damage. There is a screw for depressure at rear block. I fear you may have to empty LDS tank from the bottom hose on it. Then top up with clean LDS before you start running fluid through.

Hi thanks yeah thats pretty much the plan, it mostly has atf in it, its pretty similar to lds but much thicker/ heavier. Its a known fix on slowing steering leaks - because its thicker. But also means the citroens suspension is not moving like it should !
Thanks givemeabreak. 5 liters should cover it then .

Best get rear wheels off the ground by jacking at sills. Support the jack at other points with solid blocks or axle stands, then let that pressure nipple loose on rear block.
