Could be whats known as a "Strawberry Tree" but I'm not that confident of the 5 points. Sort of similar

Bingo ! Your 5 points duly awarded, well done :-D
Cornus Kousa is an excellent small tree and can be thoroughly recommended - it has great bracts early in the season, interesting fruits, and fantastic autumn colour on the leaves.
That's enough from gardening corner for now
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

South East Northumberland is the most populated part of the County very much formerly associated with Mining, but only 4 miles out out Ashington you get the coastline like this. I'm obviously biased but it is gorgeous.

The Excellent Drift Cafe at Cresswell a mere half a mile away, should be on the "Nice Places to stop off at" thread!

I certainly wouldn't argue with that, although our Somerset and Dorset ambassadors might. I absolutely love almost all parts of the Uk north of Durham. Incidentally Neil The Drift Cafe sounds like the place to stop for lunch on my next trip to Aberdeen which should be in the Spring. Maybe we could organise an FCF lunch !! :)

All being well that would be a very nice thing to do. Would be about 10 miles or so off the A1 but you could motor up the coast and rejoin at Alnwick.

Sounds perfect! I'm waiting for STMBO to book her trip to Australia to visit her family and then I'll know the dates. I'd like to spend a few days in Scotland so as soon as I know when I'll let you know and we can see how many takers we get!! :-D

Devon and Dorset are better this time of the year as most of the visitors have gone home but Yorkshire/ Durham have the edge on them, less traffic and people. The folk seem to be friendlier too, when we go to Beamish people come up and stroke our German Shepherd, down south they run away.

The far north of Scotland is even better.
