Re: A Main Dealer tail

Post by Stickyfinger »

Just had a thought about the Failed and Advisory nearside CVJ Boots.......is it not sensible to change BOTH of these when changing the failed one ? ... and would it not be done at the same time with no extra disassembling other than removing the boot ?
Anybody have the list Citroen workshop "technical procedure" for this work.....I cannot access it with my account on Cit.Service and I would like to know before talking to them on Monday.
I am wondering WHY they have advised changing only the one boot even with the other on an advisory.

FAILED on
Nearside Outer Front constant velocity joint gaiter damaged to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc (2.5.C.1a)....warranty ?

Advisory Notice issued
Nearside Outer Front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt (2.5.C.1a)

I'd presume they will use the two-year lifespan stretch boots and avoid dissembly beyond that.

We used to charge £75 (inc VAT and fitting etc) all in for an outer gaitor. This is at the main dealer. I did use those 'stretch' ones however as (1) they last for a long time and do not harden and pop off unlike genuine PSA ones and (2) they are a bit easier to fit as well. Given the usual scenario of it being about 3 times as much for genuine ones (as it might of been necessary to remove the inner one and dismantle it that way etc, everyone chose the £75 one. Never had any complaints.
Andy.

You never used to be able to fail on the inner boot only the outer one, perhaps this has changed.

well I think I can put it off for one and a half hours...it would allow me to check the det-cord for a 2nd time connections to make sure it fires :)

I have to say these people are really doing my head in.....I can see this getting to be a 3 week (or more) job with all this "3 Day Special Order" sh17 on a 5 year old car they still make .......good job :(

Start charging them for time wasting! Base it on your hourly rate, and see what happens.

Well, spoke to them this afternoon late.....not till Tues/Wed...IF the new part fixes the problem.

On the leaver stuck in Part:
So far, they have replaced the complete cable set, gear box control box, and Gear Stick box, Software Upgrade.....and now they think it could be the locking solenoid......NO SH17 Sherlock!.
....WHICH is what I told them it was most likely the problem as it did not "Click" unless "wiggled"....and that part is ALSO 3 days SPECIAL order...

wheeeee dribble dribbble whooooo...........................I have lost it now

It is ONLY THAT which keeps me from going there and making an example of myself in public...........hey, no pay can keep even me silent for some time.

It is REALLY getting in the way of work however as I "use" the C5 a lot for transporting small loads of cast iron radiators (why I have a C5).....It has cost me 5 days van hire so far as well !....which I will present to them I think.

Reminds me of one of my first motor trade jobs selling used sports cars. The typical 50s throwback sales manager would exclaim to potential customers 'this guarantee covers all moving parts sir.'
