:rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2: That'll surprise and irritate any boy racers in their jumped up Poxall Corsets (when you blow them off the roads with the speed and handling)!

Imprezas are the Staffordshire Bull terrier of the car world. Lovely vehicle, sadly let down by many of the cretins that own them.

Blow them boy racers away any how as they don't have a clue of what an Activa is or can do. But I do agree as a v6 Activa would also put the wind up a few Scooby drivers as most of them also don't know what a sleeper car the v6 Activa is.
Think if I can manage to keep hold of the silver Activa an get a bit of help might fancy the v6 conversion myself with a twist. v6 TURBO. :-D :-D :-D

Yes, it might have made me press the loud pedal a touch harder in the Impreza I owned, if I could be bothered. An Activa V6 might have even got close on the occasional bend... that's if it had got anywhere near in the first place. Which, really, it wouldn't..

Nice to see the cartoon thought bubble come out of the side window with...."WTF is an old Xantia still doing there and HTF did it overtake me on the outside of that roundabout ?"

This is a myth perpetuated by Activa drivers and V6 Activa drivers. I've owned a good Activa. I've owned a good Impreza WRX. Activa doesn't stand a cat-in-hell's chance, TCT or V6. Sorry, it simply doesn't. You're +200kgs for a start, -70bhp, have no trick 4WD designed simply to win on gravel and tarmac rallies. Not that any of this matters , as the Impreza would be so far ahead when it got to the bends, it could slow down and wait for the Activa to catch up. Book time on my *standard* (I even still had the twin-peashooters rather than a silly bean can exhaust) 0-60 was 4.6 seconds.. What's a V6 Peugeot 406 with the 210bhp V6? 7.5seconds. 30-90, 7.6 seconds (that's timed on a quiet track near here using Sat-nav). A Lotus Carlton is only 1/2 second quicker.

I think Activa's are great, I really do, but the touting of something they aren't is laughable. They're a very capable thing, but they're not some performance car marvel.

It is the surprise because they have to push it much harder than they would think, not what they expect from a Xantia is it ? ....not that anybody is saying which would be best in a race.

However...in limited situations it does excel it seems~-----comments ?

The moose test, to me is a little irrelevant. I suppose it's relevant in Sweden where there's moose..

Obviously it's a hazard avoidance test, and the Activa fares well as one would expect.

Citroen, as usual made a balls of the Activa system. Like much of their history it's another good idea either stuck in the wrong car, not marketed properly or not developed properly.

V6 Xantia Activa.....was a good car for the system and I think (so far) that it is a great combination for a Quick Road car WITH comfort.
.....I also think the 2ltr is fine and really not a mistake, I see nothing wrong with it as a medium fast mid range saloon.....the engine could be better but I could say that about a lot of cars of the time. Does it not still propel you fast for the UK roads ? (open question)

It is true that people seem to need balls out power and hard handling to be happy or theoretically impressed....road cars are much much more than that.

I hankered after an Activa for many years but when I finally bought one I found the whole experience rather underwhelming and to be honest not worth the inevitable hassle that comes with every Activa, the CT engine is smooth, thirsty, but rather gutless and when I took into account the constant fettling ironically just to ensure the blasted thing was perfectly level and then thought about how often the levelling system was actually being used i.e. How often I'd be tearing around a corner to make the Activa system work for a living I decided it really wasn't worth the hassle, after all how tiresome is body roll (unless you're in a DS or similar) as the Activa system trades body roll for very stiff suspension when the system is correcting body roll, hit a bump mid bend with the front wheel on the outside curve of the bend and the car jars just like a stiffly sprung conventional suspended car.

As Mike says the Activa was an interesting concept but poorly executed with several flaws such as the leaking rams, corrector linkage bushes and rear ram bush constantly wearing out and whilst on test on smooth tracks the Activa could produce some impressive times on a circuit, on public roads in Britian the system isn't that useful unless you live in Cambridgshire with it's open aspect bends as the limiting factor speed wise around most bends is being able to stop within the distance you can see to be clear on your own side of the road, so as for an Activa outrunning more exotic cars, well I just didn't see it.

An interesting point I'll raise for those converting the V6 engine to a manual gearbox, in the real world an automatic gearbox car is quicker, I spent many years driving in convoys with one manual and one auto and every time without exception the auto was quicker.

Having said the above, to those enjoying them, good luck to you, I admire your perseverance.
