That is at the top of Honister Pass between Borrowdale and Buttermere. Its part of the Slate Mine/Quarry may well have been a bridge of some sort or a base for overhead ropeways as part of the quarrying operations. It may feature in this little film from 1939

Here is an absolute gem of a film, you would never find it randomly searching for it, but I did at some point in time. Obviously lavishing languishing unwatched in the FCF archives. It is a charming film from 1939, with a little what they describe as an "Austin 8" being put through its paces on a tour round the Lake District and all its testing passes some of which were unsurfaced rough tracks. It wouldn't be too much of a spoiler to say that it was a resounding success and the little Austin 8 took it in its stride.
Should be compulsory viewing, but as ever the choice is with the viewer/reader. Tremendous "clipped English" commentary even if the scenery, the techincolor presentation, the jolly music and the remarkable journey of the car aren't quite enough entertainment
Real 2024 problem though, It's 15 minutes long.
