The worst aspect of Christmas by far, along with Wham! I can fully appreciate why people play Whamagheddon
To be fair, most Christmas music is a bit rubbish. Except Slade, Wizzard and my personal fave, which is not actually a Christmas one at all but has become very much so over the past 50 years...
A quite obscure 70s band I'm a massive fan of. I have virtually all of their discography on vinyl...

I can honestly say I had never heard of them until you mentioned them Jim, but I liked the use of acoustic guitars and the lead singer clearly has a good voice. I will endeavour to seek out some more to listen to. Having recently treated myself to a sound bar for the laptop, music comes over pretty well, certainly up to my standards although I accept it may not meet the more discerning ears of the FCF. Even SWMBO, who was in the other room, asked who was singing because she thought they sounded good!!

Excellent Mick Next time you're up this way I'll play some of their stuff on vinyl...mickthemaverick wrote: ↑19 Dec 2023, 15:15 I can honestly say I had never heard of them until you mentioned them Jim, but I liked the use of acoustic guitars and the lead singer clearly has a good voice.
They also play a fantastic instrument called a Mellotron... One instrument that truly is a work of genius... Or a deranged madman - take your pick

I love the sounds they can make

Re: Bah humbug! A retreat for those lacking in Xmas spirit
I have now listened to the first 2 mins of each track on the Berlin album to get a more general feel for the band. I would say I liked most of them but I did feel the mixing could have been better for that album with the percussion being a touch too imposing for my liking. However I liked enough to have a look at their, what turns out to be, rather chequered history on Wiki and from that I can see why I had not heard of them. I'll give them a better listen as the days go by!!

The Berlin album is a bit of a classic now Mick... Agreed on the mixing. One of their other live albums, 'Live Tapes', is a bit lacking in the mixing and quality department. Shame really as it has a teriffic selection of virtually all their 'standards' and a superb atmosphere. Most of their original early studio albums on vinyl are sonically a bit challenged too. I have some digital remasters on CD of a few of their albums and they're an improvement, unusually.

Now, I don't mind Mariah Carey's song. It's a bit annoying but at least it's a decent tune and she can sing properly.
Slade it has to be for me, closely followed by Wizzard. I also quite like

Re: Bah humbug! A retreat for those lacking in Xmas spirit
Spent my Christmas morning replacing the airbag in the passenger seat of my car (and listening to normal music)
Music keeps me going.
