New problem! Clunking front end

Unread post by wainy »

Hi,

My Activa seems to be developing a new problem every week at the moment! Most are little and easily solved but this one has flumoxed me over the weekend and tonight  .

Over bumps, there is quite a heavy clonking noise from the front end. It is coming from the right hand side of the car and is most pronounced when the right front wheel hits a bump but is also heard when the left hand wheel hits a bump. It is always there in the background though, even over small bumps. There is also a soft clonk when the body is adjusting itself from side to side when stationary.

My immediate thought was that it must be anti-roll bar related but on inspection, everything seems tight with no play. I've also ruled out any problems with steering linkages. All seems in really good nick.

Found some loose bits and pieces such as the washer fluid filler neck and the panel under the washer bottle that bridges the gap between the bumper and the wheelarch. These are now also firmly in place and the clonking remains!

Has anyone had any experience of this? Maybe I'm not checking the suspension or steering properly?

Thanks,

WAINY.

If its not top mount related then i would suspect drop links?

Mee too although the Activa only has one conventional drop link as the other side is the Activa Ram.

The RH one is the conventional one and worth a good check as it takes little wear in them to make a terrible racket.

It's rare, but not unknown, for the balljoint on the top of the Ram to get sloppy byt then the noise would be on the LH side...

Else, that, give your wishbone bushes a good look at, especially the P bushes.
