It could be the fan, which is housed down near where the polen filter is for the aircon (Under Glovebox). Mine broke after 85,000 miles (8 years), but mine got stuck on MAX always, there are two parts to it, on Phase 1, you can just get the 1 broke part, on Phase II, they are joined, and cannot be seperated, so its the whole unit. (Thats if the fan is the culprit!) I got charged £130 for the part and fitting at local citroen specialist.

Not sure how to test if that is the cause.

Sounds to me like the normal, standard Xantia blower problem (i.e. Ignition Switch and/or burned connectors on the blower module). The Activa is no different to any other aircon Xantia in this respect.

I posted a guide in the main Citroen forum to diagnose blower problems that will find the problem for you. If you can't find it I'll post a link to it.

Funny you should say about the oil gauge. My erstwhile MK2 Activa gauge used to read about 80-90 degrees but my MK1 gauge only ever reads 50-60 like yours. It does go up a bit whe you give it a bit of beans. The sensor is high in the front of the sump and in the blast of cooling air so It will not be 100% accurate and will suffer wind-chill. Older XU engines had their oil tenmperature sensors at the back of the block and this was a more sensible place.
