I did not hit either of them, but they decided to leave crossing the road to chickens. A bit later I saw a couple of males, but they were eating, and not playing chicken.
They were everywhere around us when we were back up north - and I can vouch for the fact that they are about as close to flightless as birds get while still being actually able to fly. I have honestly had to herd one about a quarter of a mile up the road with the car at walking pace before he eventually decided to take off. Not an isolated incident either!

Pretty birds indeed...but definitely not the brightest!

On an ornithological note Jim keep your eyes open on your bike rides for Turdus Pilaris very much a feature of fields and hedgerows at this time of year often in considerable numbers.

Yes that could very well be one interpretation Steve :) and probably quite accurate too.

I think Paxman tested out the country's finest student brains on Turdus in a recent episode of University Challenge.

James, triathlon is on the list ;)

Saw a few piles of turds as there were many horses out enjoying the sunshine, with riders of course...

Lots and lots of fellow cyclists too!!! It really is the swansong for a lot of cyclists and soon their bikes will be put away until spring. Not me. I'm year-round in all but heavy rain...

Snow ridings great fun Jim. Have you seen the studded snow tyres available for bikes? Run at low pressure they really maximise your chances of staying on your bike in snow and ice. They make a funny clicking rhythm as you ride too.

My colleague had some. He said it was a) like riding on rice crispies and b) damned hard work as the drag was incredible! Good winter training then! I say for anyone serious about training hard they should get a bike trailer and stuff a couple of bags of sand in it - it's amazing how much harder work it is riding with a trailer on tow with a couple of kids in it!!

Absolutely, Just like riding into a strong headwind.... I thought those tyres may not offer the very lowest of rolling resistance and I just love your colleague's description of them Richard :lol:

Not seen Gabriel's new V5C yet so today I phoned the DVLA...

They've lost it, claiming they never received it; I personally posted it to them so I know it got into the system :twisted: I've had to submit a new application for a 'replacement' V5C. Luckily at no cost...

The snowmen down south tend to be a bit more adventurous;

:rofl2: That's maybe some kind of a record Zel :twisted: I've had it happen once before with an XM but then with an XM you expect such things!

Maybe this is a subliminal message never to sell Gabriel again - not that I have any intention of doing so...
