I'm sorry to hear that you have to let the Xm go Jim , it's a great car . I've got a dilemma myself soon as i may have to sell one of the cars , I'd rather not let the doblo go but I couldn't bear to part with the Zx . It's just that I cannot afford to run two cars at the minute sadly .

Jim i read on the xm forum it was being sold on. I think your spot on with your comment that these cars should go to a good home where they will be being used. Im sure the regular use of mine is keeping it in fine fettle.

These decisions are hard, but someone older and wiser than me on these matters once said to me that you should never fall in love with a piece of metal, the context of the conversation was advising me not to hold onto my old Xantia once i hankered after a change....i dont regret that decision.

Good luck with the sale, its a great car although it needs the odd little bit, the colour combo inside and out really impressed me when i saw it and drove it, and as you say you still have two Xantias to play with....and not just any old Xantias either....the flagships of the range in their respective areas. Still a lucky guy on that front

That is sad news Jim but I understand why you need to downsize your fleet. Having three cars can be hard work and a good amount of time is needed to keep them as they should be. I know all about that!

I'm not sure I fall in love with cars but I do get really attached to them and the thought of selling one does not come lightly. I still miss that XM and the V6 Xantia too, both cars I would have loved to have kept but that would not have been possible to get the cars I have now. I'm toying with the idea of selling the C5, as the Xantia HDi does a very similar, if not better, job for my daily driver. However, Im very attached to that car, I've been all over in it, its my ideal spec C5 and what I had wanted for years before I got it. Anyway ... Ill use up my blog space for that

I hope the Prestige finds a good home, it deserves it. The fact it runs on LPG is a huge bonus and gives diesel like running costs. Its a great spec and arguably the best age range of XM, as they seem to rust among the least and have the least electrical problems.

Good luck with the sale :-D

Absolutely Chris, which is why that's the most important consideration in rehoming her...

Despite what I said earlier, the XM is staying...

Truth is I can't bear to part with it...

I still can't justify having three cars but I can't bear to part with any of them either

I'm glad to hear it. Two things..

1. I'd love to have a drive in the Prestige at some point, sounds great.
2. You should let other people take them for MOTs. Give them a spare key and the certs, then you might forget. They can just take it for you without telling you! That'll save you months of stress!

Good thinking on the MOT front Mike...

Yes, whenever you want you can have a drive of the V6 and the Prestige.. Not yet though as the Prestige won't be moving until the current salt epidemic is over...

The Activa isn't moving much at the moment for the same reason...

That is excellent news Jim, I'm very happy to hear that :-D

I'm having the same problem with my 3 cars. Mind, even if I managed to get down to two cars again, I'd end up with something else. In fact, going to look at a potential 4th tomorrow!

I am happy with 2 cars, but I see a mid-90s BMW 328i with a manual box, and a 3-wheeler Morgan replica in my future!

My good friend Miss P has about seventy cars now, mostly base and "stripper" '60s and '70s American models (ie; all options deleted except larger engine), many in original condition (some deterioration, necessary conservation repairs only). When we first met eleven years ago, she had about twenty, the increase is apparently my fault.

Dug the XM out of the snow this morning. It has been parked in a shady nook for several weeks and the snow cover was still almost perfect...

Gosh, it was good to drive the XM again. Forgot just what a lovely drive it is :P

Had a good check of the Xantias and I find the V6 needs a new rad and front discs sometime in the future and the Activa is enjoying loosing LHM from a weepy rear ram. It might stop when it warms up but I really must do the mod on it...

Apart from that, all is good. I'm quite well at the moment and have been enjoying a spell of good consistency. Lifestyle changes are complete, smokes have now been given up for nearly a month and caffeine likewise. It really seems to have helped. I found out just what caffeine does to me on Tuesday when I foolishly had a latte in MaccyD's. I couldn't sleep that night!

I return to full-time work next Monday

superloopy wrote:I need to look at changing Activa cambelt, is your write up nearing completion at all I wonder 8-) ..
No, have to confess it isn't but I do need to do the cambelt on the XM and as that's essentially the same engine as that Activa I can base it on that, noting the differences along the way...

In fact I really ought to get my finger out with that and get the strut tops refurbished so I can enjoy a summer of XM motoring with some peace of mind...

Im very pleased to hear your doing well at the moment, I can imagine a drive of the XM did you some good too!

Well done giving up the smokes, that'll no doubt help no end, but at the same time, can't have been easy.

I've avoided all involvement with cambelts at all costs, however I might have to have one off tomorrow. Should I decide to do it, Im really not looking forward to turning the key after
