Hope you're feeling more like yourself again soon Jim. Not entirely sure what this thing that's been going around is, but pretty sure we've had the same thing. Couple of weeks now and I'm still definitely not quite right (well, as close to right has become the norm since having COVID anyway), though am managing to more or less function at least now.

Still *trying* to see a doctor about some assorted issues which while probably fine could potentially be really serious. First appointment (phone appointment as that's all I was offered), 12-week waiting time, then they cancelled the appointment the day before and had me reschedule. Another 12 weeks, they failed to phone me. I get the angry "you missed your appointment, shame on you" letter through the post the following day. Fast forward another 14 weeks this time to last Thursday, you guessed it...no call again.

Excuse me while I go and bash my head against a wall.

We do have private medical cover through my husband's work...unfortunately they won't do anything without a referral from my GP, which is what I've been trying to get for nearly a year now! Annoyingly they do offer self-referral for quite a lot of things, but sadly not what I'm trying to speak to them about. I know the NHS is chronically understaffed, underappreciated and underfunded everywhere, but our particular practice is just an absolute joke.

I wish I was like my 65 year old pet tortoise, he went to bed last month to sleep the cold dark months. That would suit me fine!

Not being a great lover of the cold, wet months I can see a certain attraction in that Davie. I'm here hoping I'm only a temporary member of the decrepit club but at my age... And I hope that's the same with you too

Zel, that's outrageous about the doctor's appointments Yes, I think we've had similar. Lots of it about, both my daughter and granddaughter had it a few weeks back...

Our medical centre here doesn't seem too bad - or at least for a telephone appointment. Fill out a web form and a doctor will usually call back same day... Goodness knows what it's like if you need a face-to-face as I've only had one post-Covid and that was only for a swab that was needed to diagnose my ear problem after three telephone consultations failed to.

I just hope I can escape this without having to visit the doctor... I do hope you will soon be able to and get your situation resolved.

While I was out yesterday I noticed an unusual number of grey squirrels leaping about and remembered their Swedish name - 'sjusovaren' - translates as 'seven sleeper' as they allegedly sleep (hibernate) for seven months in Scandinavia and wondered if they do that here.

Trip to the doctors was to find out why they phoned me yesterday. Can't bring myself to return the call. Apparently it was to say they had posted my medical card, whatever that may be, to me.
And also to try and make an appointment with the mob upstairs from the GP suite.
No sign of life, administrative life anyway, up there so that appointment may never happen as telephonic communication seems to be their only option.

There's quite a few things now which seem unfairly internet only for the convenience of the provider, not the customer. Cost, blah blah is probably the justification

Most things are apparently able to be accessed online but I haven't received the authorisation yet (new doctors)
I can book appointments, order repeat prescriptions and the like but not access my details.
But this clinic doesn't appear to be included in that.

A cheerio call from down under - hope you are all back on deck and operating on at least 11 cylinders ASAP!

Jim that knee issue sounds very annoying - hope it is all down to the virus, and will resolve given rest (& time). However if it's not resolving, perhaps get a thyroid test? Low thyroid causes problems with ligaments, which of course shows up as joint problems. Haven't personally been affected, but my wife and one of our dogs has.

Hey Mick - what about Tasmania - no snakes, no foxes, climate more like what you are used to (although winters are definitely warmer than in the UK - no salt needed on the roads).

There are some areas of Tassie with good rainfall, excellent soil, and a mild climate where you could definitely be self-sufficient. Actually - what am I doing sitting here on the mainland? I should sell up and move there myself!

Having spent some very high quality time there I can thoroughly agree with Tasmania I was very smitten with it and got the feeling it lived in its own timezone: GMT - 20 years!

And I'd expect good access to healthcare - moreso than in the middle of a Brazilian rainforest or a south Pacific island! Yes, I know it would cost but I recall our healthcare on the mainland of Oz was beyond reproach...
