They put the old cable back on but "freed it off". Obviously it needs a new cable which is now ordered and apparently in the post. :-) They also made repairs to the gear cables so I have ordered new ones. They too are in the post. I don't think I can change the clutch cable as I think I need access from underneath although I might have a crack at the gear cables as I think that's a case of slotting them through and clipping them on.

That's good Dave... Clutch cables are bloody awkward, especially at the pedal end! Is your cable the auto-adjusting type?

Yes fairly certain it is Jim. I can't see it at all in the engine bay as the engine is right at the back and obscures everything.

No instructions, but it only books at 0.6 hours, so it can't be that hard. Can it???

No technically I would have thought its quite straightforward if you've got a ramp. Its a bit cold for my old bones to be sprawling around under it in this weather. :-) I'll have a look at the gear change though. I think that's do able.

The rain stopped today. It was cold but we had blue skies and sporadic sunshine. I now have the clutch and gear change cables in my possession and will hopefully get them fitted next week. However I didn't waste the weather window and this afternoon I syphoned the old power steering fluid out of the reservoir, gave the filter a quick clean and topped up with fresh Dexron ll. Dinner was ready so no test but I'll be out tomorrow. I'll keep topping up till it's back to cherry red. I should hope the pas will be easier by then as well.

It looks like it's going to take longer than I thought to clear the pas. Still I'll just keep plodding away at it. It can only get better.

It does, I've completely changed PAS fluid before now - due to a ram change on a 405 - and even then it turned dark in no time at all...

I don't know why but it never seemed to cause a problem...

It seems a bit heavy Jim. More than it should be in my mind, so I thought if I get it clean then its hopefully not the fluid causing the problem.

Might be worth checking the tracking Dave - that can make the steering feel heavy...

The tyre pressures are OK aren't they?
