Re: Xantias disappearing?
My brother had a marina for about a week. He learnt how to fly in it! The pity was it didn't land very well and was a little redesigned [emoji13] [emoji23]

They were nice and simple though, a Morris Minor in a bigger body, the front suspension still used to collapse as well.

Re: Xantias disappearing?
the marina 1700 ital. OHC engine with an su oil filled piston carb on it was almost quicker than a 1.9 turbo diesel Xantia.
Mine topped 130 mph easily, Ive been trying to find one to restore it, a beautifully smooth running engine which returned about 35 to the gallon on a run. mine was a 1979 Mariner estate. it saved my life when I was parked up in a country lane a Vauxhall Vectra hit me head on doing 80mph the car hardly budged it was so heavy but my offside front wheel was never found it vanished into a farm field somewhere.
for now my 1998 1.9td Xantia estate at 188K is the car for me until I find a perfect 2.2 Crd PT Cruiser.
I also, like the little 600cc 2 seater smart cars with the rear engines, did anyone know they don't have a sump plug? the oil has to be pumped out of the filler plug, (note to self if you buy one have a sump plug fitted)
Still cant get over how expensive car insurance gets when you hit 80 years old, Have been looking for a small engined cheap to tax car for my Father but they hike the insurance costs for older people a lot.

Re: Xantias disappearing?
I didn't think they were a bad vehicle for the time, I had a marina van for a while, I think that had a BMC 'B' series engine.
I noticed my insurance which has been steadily dropping went up this year as I am now 76 but still only about £150 which doesn't seem to bad.
My car of choice is now the Peugeot 406 Hdi estate, relatively simple engine for a common rail, ultra reliable, easy to work on and 60+mpg on a run driven sensibly.

Re: Xantias disappearing?
I was doing a call in Salisbury when I saw an 'L' reg dark green Xantia, that looked (from a distance) in nice condition (I couldn't get close, but it was at the Tesco car park).

Re: Xantias disappearing?
Peter, There are some very nice examples of old Peugeots 1.9td's out there at the moment
it seems that it is the Xantias that see a much harder life than the Peugeot's and go to the great
scrappy in the sky much sooner. Ive seen quite a few very good condition Peugeots about.

Re: Xantias disappearing?
Yes, the 405 (possibly the best Pug ever along with the 205) has proved long-lived... 406 too seems to be showing the same traits...falling-out-with-my-car wrote:Ive seen quite a few very good condition Peugeots about.

Re: Xantias disappearing?
Same here really, probably as many 405s as Xantias. Been an upsurge in mk1 Xantias lately though, I've seen 2.chinkostu wrote:Around here theres loads of 406's. No 405's, few xantias!

Re: Xantias disappearing?
Even the 406's are less abundant that they were. Having got used to the Hid fuel consumption and road tax I don't think I will be going back to an XUD, although the 2.1 comes a close second.

Re: Xantias disappearing?
I've not seen a xantia on the road for a long time, I've just spotted a silver one today. Followed 5 minutes later by a zx in dark dreen. Both were N reg, so it's appropriate that I was in the 204 N reg!

Do you wave when you see other ones? I waved at the last 2 Xantias and they both seemed oblivious to me.

Sadly, same hereelma wrote:Do you wave when you see other ones? I waved at the last 2 Xantias and they both seemed oblivious to me.
Slightly off-topic but I always acknowledge other cyclists with the customary small wave from the bars and a cheery greeting...
It's only returned from those on posh bikes wearing all the gear and only then if I'm on my posh bike... If I'm on my hybrid I get ignored
